I don't know about Chinese but I know that they do eat cooked rats in some rural parts of Indonesia. However, it is my understanding that they are not rats as we would know them (disgusting city dwelling garbage eaters) but rather large vegetarian rodents that live in the forests.

A rat is a rodent; rodents have good meat.
We eat nutria, muskrats, and squirrels in the US.
South Americans eat Capybaras and guinea pigs.
Africa has assorted bushmeats.
What's the big deal if anybody has to eat rats.
I'd rather eat a rat than not have any meat....

It's not that easy to find delicacies like that. It's only available in one restaurant in China. So, no Chinese do not catch rats and eat them.

hehehe dont use a broad paint brush. go see discovery travel and see ian wright eating capybaras, goats eyes, and rat dishes do exist around the globe.
maybe u didnt travel far.... go visit thailand and the street food is full of fried scorpions, beetles, worms, in various dishes and is very popular food.....
it is indeed a delicacy in some parts of india and china where the main crop is paddy and the rats are the vermin.

I never heard of that, so probably not. I did however see a restaurnt in Daqing that specialised in dog, and they butchered dogs and cooked them with blowtorches on the sidewalk.

2.) You would if you were in the right situation. (Watch Ken Burn's "The War". In Manila, you'd've eaten them all you could.)
