Were you addressing me on "being mean"?.....
I have a great history of donating. I hate to do garage sales, shopping...yes...doing them ....no.
So I always donate to our local places, first to the Partnership and then the others if I have to. Partnership is alot cheaper, however, i would rather give away for free first to someone who has a need but no money. That's my first choice. God's blessing to all.

Vincent R...."star trek action figures(hint hint) etc., etc.,) to people who need them.".......Are u suggesting that you NEED some star trek action figures.....how funny...I do happen to have some too.
Everyone has been very helpful here. I looked on the "group" but there was one for my area but not really active. One post in 1 month. So I may try another local site which I use all the time...maybe something is going on there.

donating items you no longer want/need but still are usefull (ie working toaster, clothes, TV, Pots/Pans, star trek action figures(hint hint) etc., etc.,) to people who need them.
It also means you have a use for the item not just something you are going to sell!

Freecycle is a very good organisation people can list things they don't need any more from toys to cars and furniture etc to give to to other members in their area, after you make your first offer you can ask if you really need for something from the other members. This is helping to correct the damage we do by ensuring that nothing in decent usable and safe condition is just chucked away. Lots of people ask in emergency then when they can get their own they pass it on the same way. It is a very good thing and I think some of the people on their are lovely. Type www.freecycle.com in your browser, and go have a look at the site. It is a yahoo group by the way so you should be able to find it easy enough.

It's a Yahoo Group. Before signing in for your Yahoo email, when you have that list of Yahoo features, if your area has for example, Dallas Freecyle, you would be able to type that in and join the group.
You first OFFER 1 item and you are then eligible to request items you need or when someone offers an item you can reply to their post and asked to be considered. They can choose whomever they want. That person chosen to receive the item has to come to whatever area (mostly each others home) and pick the item(s) up.
It basically means keeping things you are through using out of the many garbage dumps throughout the world. My junk may be your treasure. If I'm through having babies, I may offer all of my baby furniture and clothes to another who is expecting.
I've been in a group for about 4 years. You don't get a tax deduction like you could with SA or Goodwill but everything's FREE!

freecycle, of which I am a member of, is a online forum to get rid of your unwanted items instead of throwing them in the garbage heap. You put the item (post) and then someone of your choosing comes and picks up that item free of charge with no money exchanging hands. You may also ask for items that you need that someone in your group may have The web site that you go to is freecycle.org to see if there is a group in your area after you type in your area code.

It is a group that encourages its members to not throw away useful items that some one else might use by recycling them
take an item you no longer want or need post it on the site to be given away simple as that
freecycle > http://www.freecycle.org/

Typically giving those items to someone else for free, not to someplace that charges like Goodwill. Frequently communities will have a mailing group for those who are interested in sharing.

So it is mean to trade something amongst yourselves instead of giving it to a charity?
Is that what you are asking?
Considering how much stuff is still showing up at charity facilities I would have to say that it really isn't something to worry about.
If it is a problem for you maybe you could trade a whole bunch of your stuff for things and then donate it to the charities.

Sounds like you mean recycle because those places rarely give things away. Freecycle means taking useful items you don't want and giving them away.Donating your pop cans to the Fire dept. is also freecycling.

Freecycling is recycling your old unwanted stuff to someone who wants it, at no cost to him.
By comparison, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and St. Vincent dePaul have stores where they *sell* your unwanted stuff.
