What can you eat? Food! It's really easy: Just avoid meat, meat stocks (you'll have to ask at restaurants), gelatin, and rennet (an ingredient used to coagulate cheese that's made from the stomachs of calves). Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and nuts. There are tons of analogues available at most grocery stores, or if there's a natural foods store in your area, they'll likely have veggie burgers, veggie crumbles, veggie strips.
A few websites that might help you out: www.vegweb for recipes and general all-around information; www.happycow.net and www.vegdining.com to help you find restaurants in your area.
Compassion Over Killing (www.cok.net) has a veg starter guide, as do many pro-veg organizations. Many veg starter guides will give you ideas on the hows and whys of vegetarianism.
And don't worry about protein. As long as you get enough calories and you don't eat just junk food, you should be okay. Even vegans get more protein than they really need. Protein deficiency is practically unheard of in industrialized nations, right?

Firstly what are your reasons for becoming vegetarian?
If you just think its a good idea and it isn't based on you feeling for the way animals are treated or for health benefits then it will be hard for you to keep up.
It isn't just not eating meat, they are hundreds of products that you can no longer have which you would think would be OK, for instance they put gelatin in allot of desserts, this is made from animal fats, they also put it in allot of chewy sweets. Also some cheeses are made using the lining of animals stomachs. So you have to check the packaging of every thing you eat. Also going out for meals is harder as your choices are limited.
That all being said i am a vegetarian as i feel strongly about the treatment of animals, and although i find some of the above mentioned things a little restrictive sometimes i would never go back to eating meat.
Needs allot of consideration before you make a big change to your lifestyle like this.

To be a vegetarian, simply don't eat meat.
You can eat everything, but meat.
Definition of vegetarianism: The practice of subsisting on a diet composed primarily or wholly of vegetables, grains, fruits, nuts, and seeds, with or without eggs and dairy products.

im a vegetarian and all you need to do really is not eat meat (of course) but you definetly need protein.... your body fat will skyrocket and ur muscles will become weak and u will loose all of your energy.. eat anything with high protein(it is hard getting around the meat group) beans, nuts (cashews almonds peanuts sunflower seeds anything) eggs hardbolied for a snack, protein bars, just make sur u have a little with every meal. THIS IS NOT ALL IN ONE DAY JUST some options. Peanut butterwith apples, what I do is I eat all veggies & fruits&dairys for my meal and then I snack on protein..... Eating a lilttle handful here and there increases your metabolism.....thats it oh and one more thing u can eat fish to up the protein.. some vegetarians eat fish and chicken..... but I only eat fish.. Its your preference to what you choose... and this is not a manditory thing remeber u can quit if u reaize ur not whole hearted about ur decision....

First you'll need to further research it. You're probably saying you have, but you'll need to see the foods you need to eat to get the nutrients your body needs. You might not like them, so you might need to take vitamins. Second, it is kind of a diet change, because obviously you cant eat meat. But there are so many other foods you can eat, ex- grilled cheese, pizza, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, salad, many deserts, lots.
Good luck!
