Actual vegetarians do not eat any meat. Some people are confused and call themselves vegetarian when they eat meat. Fish is meat and no vegetarian eats fish.

There are no levels of vegetarian besides vegetarian and vegan. People can call themselves anything they choose, however it doesn't make it so.

Yes, it's true.

As for it not being meat... that's silly. Fish are living animals, and eating their flesh is eating meat. I've never heard of a "vegetarian" excluding a certain group of meat. If that were true, I'd be a vegetarian. I don't eat pork or fish, but I love chicken!

Edit: Just to drive the point home with some people who say vegetarians can pick and choose... no, they can't, not if they are truly vegetarians. Like someone below said, you can call yourself one, but that doesn't make it so. Here are three separate dictionary definitions. Note the specific references to fish:

"vegetarian - noun
eater of fruits and grains and nuts; someone who eats no meat or fish or (often) any animal products "

"vegeˈtarian [vedʒi-] noun
a person who does not eat meat of any kind"

"veg·e·tar·i·an - 1. a person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc."

There is veggie sushi, but since you later clarified and said he ate raw fish, he's not a vegetarian at all. So he's either very confused or he's lying to you and himself.

Vegetarians do not eat the flesh of ANY animal, and fish are most certainly animals. Vegans exclude all animal products, including dairy, eggs, and honey.

This guy is a pescetarian.
They are not really vegetarians, but like the image of being one. LOL.
Over all, there are no rules, you control what you eat, but a real vegetarian will often call out a pescetarian.

You're right, a vegetarian abstains from all meat - that's any kind of flesh - anything that had a face. That would be a: pig, chicken, cow, duck, lobster, crab, etc. And yes, crustaceans count too - at least in my book they do.

Fish IS meat. It's the flesh of an animal. Maybe he didn't quite understand what a vegetarian is or he was lying, being sarcastic or his version of the vegetarian diet includes fish.
