if you are talking about the tube they stuck down your throat and hook a ventilator to, it is called an et tube, or endotrachiel tube, they can also use combi tubes, ptl's, and a few other things, but those two are usually only done in emergency medicines... if you are just talking about devices used to give a person o2, there is the nasal canula, non-rebreather, and several others, but those are the most popular ones...

you are probably thinking of an endotracheal tube which is placed either through the nose or usually through the mouth over the tongue on down the throat through the epiglottis on past the vocal cords and rests above the carina (bifurcation of left and right bronchus). however if you bypass all that and cut a slit into the neck below the vocal cords and into the windpipe (trachea) we can place a breathing tube called a trach tube. both of the tubes referred to connect to a ventilator/respirator and support breathing.
if you are thinking of a small bore tube which simply resides at the outside channels of the nose, then you are thinking of a nasal cannula which does nothing more than provide supplemental oxygen.
you must have had something done for to you at one time or perhaps a relative had.
