I think I have a sinus infection. I caught a cold last week and instead of getting better, I'm getting worse. My snot is now turning greenish yellow which I know is a sign of infection...i can't afford to go to the doctor (no insurance) but have access to antibiotics at my work (vet). Do you know which antibiotics are the best for sinus infections?

Most medications used on animals are used in humans too.

It's not so much as choosing the right antibiotic...it's also a matter of using a decongestant along with the other medications.
Have you tried Vicks? What about Mucinex? Mucinex is a little on the expensive side but it also works great. You only have to take 1 pill every 12 hours and it really does break up the mucus.
As far as antibiotics, zithromycin or z-pac works for this kind of ailment...for some, other antibiotics such as penicillan, e-mycin, keflex, any of these might do the trick...

If you are not allergic to it, Trimethoprim Sulfa (Bactrim, Tribrissen, Septra, Sulfatrim, Cotrim. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic and fairly inexpensive compared to some of the designer antibiotics. Antibiotics are antibiotics whether for a human or an animal. Amoxicillin is another antibiotic that is prescribed for upper respiratory infections.

Also, people who eat mostly raw food tend to stay healthier than people who eat a lot of prepared and cooked foods. For the best home remedy for a sinus infection, you could go to your local grocery store and look at all the tempting raw foods you’ll find there. Then take some home, make a big salad with fruits or vegetables, and enjoy!
In the winter, you can buy many types of frozen fruits to use in smoothies or to eat with yogurt. Frozen fruit still has lots of great nutrients to keep you healthy. Before adding any supplements or changing your diet, consult your health professional.

I would never recommend taking antibiotics which are not prescribed by a doctor. Do you think it is a good idea to take animal medication?
