My basset likes to find fresh fallen apples, and eats them. I've never had a dog that was so interested in foraging for fruit. She looks pretty cute trotting around with a whole apple in her mouth.

Yea, it's normal.

That said, my mixed pinscher was at my mom in-law's one day, and he ate a guava that had fallen from her tree. BIG mistake. That evening, I noticed he kept voiding around the house... every 2 minutes or so, I would discover a new puddle. I kept taking him out, but that would not be enough. He eventually stopped.

So I put him away in his little box for the night, and he desperately tried to get out, but I thought it was just because he wanted to come out of the box. About 5 minutes later, he stopped trying and I noticed a distinct smell in the air. Grrrrrrrreeeeattt... my dog CRAPPED this really gooey, watery poo all over his little bed and all over the floor.

Moral: Don't let your dog eat guava!

I thinks it's normal.
For some reason, whenever I eat an apple my puppy goes nuts for it! I thought it was the crunchy sound, but when I gave her a little she really liked it.
I busted her foraging constantly for the grapes that I fed to my Blue Jays in the yard and finally figured out where her nightmare poopies were coming from. And yes, I am now aware how horrible grapes are now for pooches after a little research.
So I'm reluctant to feed her any kind of fruit w/a skin now.

sounds cute!

I'd say it's pretty normal. I have a small apple tree in my backyard, and my jack russell loves to eat the apples and play with them at every chance he gets. One time my father was out there and he had an apple in his hand and my dog ran and took the apple out of his hand without stopping and ate it.

My dogs love fruit, especially melon, but they will eat apples. Dogs are naturally foraging omnivores, so they will eat just about anything.

Apples are fine, but onions, avocado leaves, skins and pits, raisins and grapes, and chocolate, are all toxic to dogs, so make sure your dog doesn't eat those things.

She sounds just like my black lab... we have an apple tree in the garden and she'll spend hours just sitting underneath it looking up and waiting for the apples to fall. She used to jump for them but she's old now so just sits there patiently waiting for them. They've all fallen now so we have to buy them to feed her addiction!

Your dog's perfectly normal so don't worry about it. Try giving her carrots too... my dog loves them :o)

Some dogs will eat all kinds of things. Most dogs will eat starchy vegetables like beans and potatoes, and some of them will eat fruit. My
Cairn terrier eats cantaloupe.

She may just like apples, then again there may be a vitamin or mineral problem with her. Try giving her vitamins appropriate to her size. Your local vet can advise.

I think that most dogs can digest it so don't worry. It's not abnormal or normal really but its ok. But if she's showing signs of any ilnesses contatc your vet ASAP. I bet she looks cute :)

That's cute. I had a dog once that stole big green tomatoes from my neighbor's garden. He would line them up on my front porch. I thought someone was leaving them there for me until I caught him bringing one home and adding it to his collection.
