Batch is more like portions (size or amount doesnt matter).
It's any "part"of a whole amount.

For example: 12 pieces of chicken

*4 batches (3 pieces each batch) OR

*2 batches (6 pieces each batch) OR

*3 batches (4 pieces each batch)

CATERING: now that's food prep in huge quantities!

Making a small batch of a food is possibly halving all the ingredients to make a half batch. Cooking a large batch might mean doubling or tripling (etc) the ingredients to serve a large number of people.

A batch can be any size, it sort of means quantity.
Like a batch of cookie dough is the bowlful of dough that is going to be made into cookies.
You can have a large batch of dough (for making 6 dozen cookies) or a small batch of dough (for making 2 dozen cookies).

You are correct. It's like making mashed potatoes for 30 people. Or making lasagna for 40 people. It's like a regular recipe that's doubled, tripled or even more. So if you're having a party you say "I need to make 3 batches of this recipe."

yes, if you follow a recipe, the yield is your batch 1x or 2x 3x, represent the amount of yield if you do the recipe once or double or triple and so on= single batch, double batch, triple batch and so on
