I formatted my computer and installed windows xp. Most of the stuff works fine, but I cannot set the screen resolution. Everything on the screen is so big and I know I have to install a driver or something. Where will I find the driver and can I download it for free? Please help

when i right click on desktop, click on settings and then advanced, at the display section (in general) there is a tab 'DPI setting' and it says normal size (96 DPI) and I cannot choose something else, that is the only option.

well everyone leadin u to check on manufacturers website..
But if i was in ur situation, i wuld first check if the drivers are installed or not.
STEP 1 -
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
The device manager gives a list of all devices that is currently installed on ur system.
==>Check for all devices that has an YELLOW Question mark.
The devices wit an YELLOW Question mark means, that these devices are present on ur computer, but the related drivers are not installed.
On ur situation, ideally it looks like the Video Drivers are not installed.
STEP 2 -
Once when u determine if the drivers for ur video is not installed,
==> try to get hold of the disc which the manufacturer mus hav provided for ur drivers.
==> incase u dont have one, try to get online and check if u can download the drivers (correct drivers) for ur video adapter.
==> if it still doesnt work, get help from a local vendor who should be able to provide the driver for ur video adapter.
Hope this helps :)

First you need to tell us what type of video card you have in your system. The two most common are Nvidia based and ATi based.
http://nvidia.com
http://ati.com
Then click on drivers.
Next select the model of video card you have.
Save the download.
Run the downloaded installer.
Reboot when it says to.
To find which card you have right click on your desktop and click on properties. Then the settings tab. Next click on Advanced button. Now you should see a tab that indicates either ATi or Nvidia. Click the tab to find the model number of your video card.
Ok try this then:
Right click on my computer, then properties, then the hardware tab, and then the device manager button.
Do you see something under display adapters there?
If it is only listed as Microsoft or VGA adapter, then you need to check the manual that came with your computer or provide the Manufacturer of the computer and the exact model number please.

By the sounds of it you have a laptop, but no matter what it is, go the manufacters website , e.g. if a dell pc go to dell.co.uk, then they should have a support page where you can download drivers, you need to find that partiuclar driver for you laptop. Once found, install it and right click on desktop then settings and change the resolution. If you need more help email me and i will take you through it step by step

Most drivers are free. What video card are you using? If you bought the computer from a store go to their website and find the drivers.

Drivers will be free off your graphics card's manufacture website. You need to find out what graphics card you have first.
Then look the there website on the support section for drivers.
Luck.

First you need to find out what graphics card or chip set you have. You can do that by looking at Control panel->Performance...->See basic infor....->Hardware->Device Manager->Display adapter. This should show you what you have. Then search for the right driver on the net and download it. There are so many different ones so it's not easy to know where to direct you.
Or you can use this site to scan your computer for the driver you need:

You have to download the drivers for your video card and your monitor. That'll give you plenty options to screw around (pardon me, experiment) with the resolutions.

hello, if you dont know what is the name of your graphics card you can directly look at it. Open up your pc and check its manufacturer. after knowing what's the name your card should get the correct driver.
