DC: MUSLIMS REACH OUT TO CHRISTIANS - TOP
Gregg Krupa, Detroit News, 10/11/07
Dozens of Muslim leaders from around the world will release the text of a letter to Christian leaders today in Washington that outlines proposed areas of understanding between the faiths and urges a search for "common ground."
Addressed to Pope Benedict XVI and the major leaders of Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Evangelical, Anglican, Orthodox churches and other Christian sects, the 29-page letter offers interpretations of both the Quran and the Bible on the love of God, love of neighbor and other spiritual concepts that are similar in Christianity and Islam.

The Muslim leaders are doing a great thing. They are not denying the validity of christianity but building on the obvious similarities. They should be proud of the effort they are making. Perhaps their christian friends could learn from their example.
For the record I am neither christian nor muslim.

I think that is wonderful. I am taking an Islam class at university and it is beautiful how much it has in common with Christianity. I think if Christians and Muslims both realized the similarities, there would be much less hatred and judgement. I hope that the leaders of the Church will take this to heart.
and for the record, i am neither christian nor muslim either!

Listen to Father O. He get's what this Muslim religion teaches. They are theocrats out to take over politically & generic (whether liberal or conservative) evangelicalism (becoming theocratic as well) in America has cracked the door wide open! Beware of liars who seem to be telling the truth! Look at history.
How can we trust a bunch of imams over our own president? I think that's just crazy!
I can talk to individual Muslims & treat them with respect as my fellow humans, but I as a Christian have *nothing* in common with them religiously. Their religion lies to them & teaches them to lie out of fear. I sincerely wish & pray they could hear God's pure Law & Gospel & be released from the prison that is Islam.
The solution is to give American Evangelicals a good dose of Two Kingdoms Theology.

That is nice, it is a good start. The real trick is to get the various Muslim sects to agree on this and to get the various Christian groups not included here either, to go along with it.

Well, it's theoretically easy for Muslims to address similarities - after all, to them, it's the same god.
(Unfortunately, the faith is 600 years younger than Christianity and too many major figures stand about where too many major figures of Christianity stood in terms of tolerance 600 years ago.)
Christians, on the other hand, often don't like to hear about similarities, becaus to them, the evolution of the Abrahamic one true god ended with the word of Jesus.
(Because really, their power players still stand where they stood 600 years ago. Except they don't say that evolutionists should be burned at the stake out loud anymore.)

Im sorry, but repeating some scripture from the NT, and Quaran, is not going to further meaningful dialogue, and understanding between the major faiths.

This is wonderful news. My only reservation is that this letter should have included the Jewish branches of Judaism as well. This is a major mistake and spoils what is otherwise a great approach to reconciliation.

True Christianity teaches that there is but ONE God who is the Father of of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
True Christians can not and can never compromise on this truth.

It's a start and for that I applaud. Although I know it's going to be a long uphill battle at least it's a start. Better than always hearing " I wish someone would do something". GOD BLESS!!!

Peace by unto them if they are true Sons of Peace!
However, since in Islam your religion tells you to practice deceit in Dar al Harb, and that you should deceive your enemies, to get them to trust you, SO THAT you can kill them, how can we be sure that these men are acting faithfully?
Over 100 people perfectly peaceful and innocent people I personally knew have been murdered by Moslems, so I have learned to be wary! "Trust but verify" said Ronald Reagan of the Russians, and so I say of any peace overtures from the Moslem world.....
I should very much like to see the full text of the letter.
