All my life I had the toilet paper dispense from over the top because I thought that was proper. My extremely proper girlfriend insists that the "proper etiquette" is to have the paper dispense from the back. Please settle this.

Dispensing toilet paper over the top or from the bottom is not a matter of proper etiquette but of personal preference.

Most people prefer toilet paper be dispensed over the top. The Scott Paper Company conducted a poll and found older folks (over 50 years old) clearly preferred to have their toilet paper dispensed over the top by more than 4 to 1.

In Nursing School they taught us that the paper should come to the user from "over the top", not from "down under." The rationale was that bathroom equipment should be set up in such a way that the user touches as few surfaces as possible. With the "over the top" arrangement, the user touches only the paper; with the "down under" configuration users may have to "dig around" and perhaps touch the the paper dispenser or the wall. If several users are sharing a bathroom, naturally we don't want users to also share germs.

Isn't it amazing what we spend time on in Nursing School? We also had lessons on cleaning dentures and folding clean laundry.

Where do people get these ideas?? It really does not matter which way it goes (unless your dispenser is too close to the wall), as it accomplishes the same thing. Over the top is easier in my opinion however, from the back offers more control (tp won't spin too fast). It's your own personal choice. Talk to your gf and compromise.

I've never known this issue (which is probably as old as taking a crap itself) to be one of etiquette but, rather, one of habit, i.e. "that's the way my parents did it so that's the way I got used to doing it". Personally, I find "from underneath" almost impossible to find the end of the tp or to pick it off the roll. Also, in a highly humid environment (such as a small bathroom after a hot shower) the "from underneath" tp invariably ends up stuck to the wall. I see the "over the top" orientation as just plain eminently more practical all the way around.

In Nursing college they taught us that the paper might desire to come lower back to the buyer from "severe", no longer from "down under." the reason replaced into that bathroom equipment might desire to be set up in a sort of way that the buyer touches as few surfaces as available. With the "severe" affiliation, the buyer touches in difficulty-unfastened words the paper; with the "down under" configuration customers might might desire to "dig around" and doubtless touch the the paper dispenser or the wall. If countless customers are sharing a bathing room, of course we don't want customers to additionally proportion germs. isn't it astonishing what we spend time on in Nursing college? It really doesn't matter, it's what you prefer.
Most hotels have it to dispense over the top. So do public bathrooms. But it's your choice.

She is going to use it faster than you do anyway you put it on the roller, so I say it dosen't matter. Try hiding it, you'll only get to do this one time though, and if you can get away with it , put some saran or plastic wrap over the bowl under the toilet seat. make sure you have your camera ready for this one. oh yeah , and let us know how it went!!
