Anybody know why INTERNATIONAL calls are showing up as Private Numbers?? Is it because they used service like Skype or some cheap phone card service that use a virtual phone number in U.S. which conveniently choose to block its caller ID ??
Thx please help! because this is from a prank caller!

I'm not sure how it differs from each other. But as far as my knowledge is concern, if the calls came from overseas/international, "private numbers" are an access numbers from a telephone company to connect the call of that person to another country. (i do sometimes use an access number from a tel company if i will call for international). whereas, an "unknown numbers" could be a call from that person right thru his/her phone but he/she is just blocking the number for you to see or not to be displayed on the receivers phone screen. (this i have to dial a certain number from my phone itself so it won't display my number to any person that i am going to call).
*for blocking a caller, i'm sorry that i cannot be of help on what number to be pressed on as we are not on the same country. but all my phones can block unwanted/unregistered calls.

It has been a while since I have had a landline other than at the business, but if it is still the same, it will block both unknown and private numbers from being able to call unless they are to identify themselves. I did block my number a few weeks ago, and the recording I got from someone who had it blocked was that this number does not take unknown callers, and I called as a private call. I do not know how the unknown works, but on a cell, when a number is blocked by pressing *67, it shows up as a private call. However, I have received telemarketers under a private call also. But it will block all unknown and private numbers calling your phone. You can always register with the do not call list. I did....on the new one, and calls have almost stopped completely.

I suggest this service: http://phonedetectives.co - The best reverse cell phone lookup service.
It's a cheap service that works great! It could be used for a much deeper search. You can use it to get hold of different varieties of background reports, and in addition cell numbers, addresses and names.. you can get unlimited reports... I ran with this because I required to verify more numbers.
You can get the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and much more about anyone! The completly free reverse phone lookup generally doesn't provide anything interesting. To get interesting information, money will must be paid. The free searches don't provide considerably more than what may be found through the phone directory or personal information and they simply require your email to send spam. The reverse phone detective search tool does work, but you should use just the service that I posted above. The last thing you want to do, is pay for a service and find the numbers you want to lookup are not available in their directory.
The service that I reccomend doesn't have any kind of problem , you won't get any bad surprise! Trust it!
Reverse Phone Lookup area gives you additional access to millions of public records, including:
+ Find out the source of a harassing ("prank") caller
+ Research a number that appeared on your phone bill
+ Locate an old friend from high school or college
+ Research "missed calls" on your caller ID that you don't recognize
+ Verify an address
+ And more...
PhoneDetectives - http://phonedetectives.co
Conduct an instant reverse phone lookup. 100% Confidentail and Instant Results!

Well, blocked is usually when you prevent a number from calling you, I think. Unknown can be almost anything. Usually when someone does *67 it would show up as either private, private caller, or unknown on your phone. Hope this helps. Take care. :)

I have the same problem usually asking you about your mortgage, or selling something, I have reported it to my phone company, they have a service where these type of callers can be stopped. Some people with private or withheld numbers, just ignore them as well, why would they not want you to know who is calling

Somepeople dont want their number displayed so they pay the service provider of their cell phone company to block their name and only show private or unknown. If it is disturbing you dont answer these calls and they will stop calling you.
