3 yrs. ago, we went on vacation to galveston tx.. and the radio stopped workin'! it will not work on the fm stations, and the am stations barely come in. the clock still works though. we've checked the fuses etc. nothin' found.
the car is a '98 chevy cavelier/4 door.
any ideas what to do or what may have caused it?
this car has been a true blessin'. and we will not be gettin' rid of it anytime soon.

Not necessary to get a new vehicle- radios go bad.. electronics and all. Fuses would usually lead to a power failure, that is not the problem here if you get am & clock.
I would check the wiring first- under hood - make sure there are no loose, frayed, stripped wires.. replace as needed.. if that doesn't work then look at antennae.. is it bent or broken?
Since you probably would not know if a resistor or capacotor wnt bad inside the radio other than taking it someone else to look at you are limited. The other suggestion is to look on Ebay, craigslist or freecycle.org for your area to see if you can get a cvheap or free working radio.

Galvelston, TX is known underground as the FM stealer. Just going near that city messes with your radio reception. The only thing you can do is to get a new radio installed and never go back to Gavelston again.

You could remove the radio and have it checked and repaired but it's probably cheaper to just get a used one from a salvage yard or have an aftermarket one installed. Probably some internal problem with the radio but you could check to make sure the antenna connection is ok.
