"All whosoever who are happy in the world
Are so through the wish for the happiness of others;
While all whosoever who are miserable in the world
Are so through the wish for the happiness of themselves."

I adore Acts 28

28:3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

Paul is bitten by a poisonous snake and yet lives. The "barbarians" who were shipwrecked with him thought he must be a murderer since he was bitten; but then they changed their minds and thought him to be a god since he didn't die. The snake story is especially interesting since there are no poisonous snakes on Malta, and there is no evidence of their existence in the past.

28:4 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
28:5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
28:6 Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
28:7 In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.
28:8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

This verse is used by those idiots who use snakes in thier churches, and I love it, it is the most ridacallous trip I have ever read, and the best bit is on Malta, they believe it, despite knowing that they live on an island devoid of snakes.

Jehovah is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness.
He will not for all yime keep finding fault,
Neither will he to time indefinite keep resentful.
He has not done to us even according to our sins;
Nor according to our errors has he brought upon us what we deserve.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
His loving-kindness is superior toward those fearing him.
As far off as the sunrise is from the sunset,
So far off from us he has put our transgressions.
As a father shows mercy to his sons,
Jehovah has shown mercy to those fearing him.
For he himself well knows the formation of us,
Remembering that we are dust.

Allah is He, Who created the seven heavens one above another; you see no incongruity in the creation of the Beneficent Allah; then look again, can you see any disorder? Then turn back the eye again and again; your look shall come back to you confused while it is fatigued.

--Quran(67-3)

That's my favorite, tells all about where we stand in cosmology.

Who truly knows? Who might speak here?
Whence was it born? Whence this creation?
The gods are later than its creation,
Who then truly knows whence it arose?

Whence this creation came into being
Whether or not he founded it;
He who, in the highest heaven, watches over it
He indeed knows, or perhaps he knows not.
