Eric Cantona.
Skill, leadership and determination with just the right amount of French arrogance. A knockout in more ways than one.
Dunno about his poetry though.

Dear Friend,
Its not that much eazy to say a single name as lots of football legents were there. One more thing to be remembered while asking this question that every time there is a hero in football. The well known names are Pele, Maradona, Seiko, Roberto Baggio, Romario... this list will go on and on. But most of these are in different styles and in different ages. Techniques and style and speed of the game is changing day by day. Pele was not playing a style of football that is playing now a days. It has developed to a strong power game now a days with Millions of rewards..

Diego Maradonna shades it from Pele for me because I did not see Pele in a tournament.
Maradonna however won World cups ALONE and I loved to watch him play. His second goal against England when he weaved through the whole team to slip the ball over the keeper is a piece of football folklore. We won't see too many Maradonnas again that's for sure.

The best footballer of all time has to be Puskas. The greatest footballer to play in Britain was George Best. The ideal professional footballer is Ryan Giggs.

That I have seen with my own two eyes Henrik Larsson. Football player extraordinaire, not only the goals he scored but those he set up, goals he created by drawing players away leaving others like Chris Sutton or John Hartson to score.
I tell you the man must have received a dozen sackfuls of mail from Rangers fans when he left saying thank god you're off. One of the few Old Firm players that both sides appreciated as a genuine footballing talent (Dalglish and Johnstone amongst others).
My humble opinion

it has to be pele
