If it was common knowledge to everyone (as so many non-LDS Christians seem to think) that there was no marriage in heaven, then why did the Saducees even ask the question in the first place?

I mean, I would think that, if they asked it knowing that NO one believed in it, then why didn't Jesus say something like "That's a stupid question!" If they asked the question, it must have been because someone believed in marriage in the resurrection. They asked it as if it were something taken for granted by someone. They didn't ask, would there be marriage in the resurrection, they asked which of a woman's seven husbands would be her husband in the resurrection. Which tells me that someone believed in marriage in the resurrection. It was an assumption on their part that marriage did continue in the resurrection.

Obviously, logic isn't working.

angelpurple, Wally, wynner01, Jamie p, if this is how you see heaven, then I want nothing to do with that God. That sort of heaven is just SAD.

you are aware that the saducees do not believe in the resurrection? the resurrection delima of 7 marraiges, is no different from a widow(er) would have.upon marring another later in life.

notice the scriptures before and after. the Pharisees and the Scribes all tried to trip Jesus up to get Him to contradict the word of God. the saducees where doing the very same thing by testing him on thre Resurrection issue which they denounced.

the answer of Jesus is plain and to the Point. since it is those pesky red letters I take it as it is written:

The Sadducees: What About the Resurrection?

18 Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying: 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife; and dying, he left no offspring. 21 And the second took her, and he died; nor did he leave any offspring. And the third likewise. 22 So the seven had her and left no offspring. Last of all the woman died also. 23 Therefore, in the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife.”
24 Jesus answered and said to them, “Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26 But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?[c] 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.”

notice too that Jesus rebukes them that the "dead" are not dead as we suppose but are alive!

where? well, they are asking about heaven; are they not?

Thanks for showing another one of the many wrong bible interpretations of the mormons.

Matthew chapter 22 verses 23 to 33

23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, 24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. 27 And last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

You are completely right that it was a stupid question as you put it. They did not believe in the ressurection so tried to think heaven was like life on earth. But Jesus was able to tell them it is not so. So all MORMONS should take note of what JESUS has said. The bible has all the answers nd if it is read completely as it is ment to be then you will get the full message and not part of it which can be used for wrong interptretations.

The Jewish community at that time was divided- there were those who followed the Saducees' school of thought, and those who followed the Pharasees' school of thought.

One big difference between the two was that although the Pharasees believed in an afterlife, the Saducees didn't... which makes the question even more rediculous!

The Saducee who asked Jesus this question was not wanting to know the answer, he wanted to trip up/trick Jesus.

Jesus' answer did two things- it declared what will and will not happen in heaven (no weddings), and reminded that man of what is true (that there actually IS a heaven and afterlife).

BTW- I think she'd end up with her first husband....

TheSadducees were the liberals of their day and did not believe in angels or the afterlife. They were asking a trick question as many people do in Yahoo Answers which are worded to trip up the unwary.
Pharisees were the Fundamentalists and believed in the afterlife. There were many disputes between the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
Christ was aware of the disputes and beliefs of both parties.
His answer cut through the peanut butter and told the truth of the matter. In heaven there are neither male and female and angels do no marry.
In our marriage vows this is reflected in the Christian marriage by the traditional vow...til death do us part. we are married only until death.

what is important is not the question, but the answer,

Jesus said there would be no marriage in heaven....and that there is neither male or female there..people are just spirits....

so it would not matter which husband was which..because that kind of relationship was over....

people will recognize loved ones there, but the physical apsects of the relaitonship are gone.

Mark 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

isn't it sad how so many religions & sects so belittle marriage and the family that they don't see how this is the source of so much of our joy not only on earth, but also in heaven?

And enough with the bashing that we don't understand your 'interpretation' of the scriptures and so are a cult or non-christian. There are many different interpretations of the scriptures and doctrines. You don't like ours. Fine. We don't agree with yours either.

People aren't married in heaven. Marriage is earthy thing. In Matthew he is saying that people won't given in marriage because we won't care about these things. We will be with god.

They were simply trying to trick Jesus, which failed. It does stand to reason that if married you will be married in heaven. What God has joined...
