"very disturbing how you're now searching the internet for pictures of men mounting other men. what other secret photos do you have saved on your hard drive?!? i think the canadian lifestyle has finally worn off on you. how sad. you used to be a red-blooded, hetero american male and now look at you. what a shame, and what an embarassment to the state of texas. i wonder if any real texans would have this image as their myspace profile picture. probably just the closet fags."

This person posted this on my MySpace profile after I had posted a comporomising picture of his favorite football team's QB as my profile picture in making fun of said team. My wife says I reacted a bit by telling him to apologize or our friendhsip is over. Maybe that was a little over the top. But, I think my anger is justified. If this had been said to a man in our father's or grandfather's time, he'd be lucky if he saw the next morning with a broken body part. What do you men think?

The picture in question is of Rex Grossman geting sacked and looks like he's being mounted. I used it as my profile pic on MySpace to make fun of the Bears. But, this comment goes way neyond the scope of friendly sportsmanship. If someone had said this to you, would you be angry? I am. I did tell him to apologize or he could forget our friendship. Was that over the top? or is the level of my anger justified?

Amendment:

It's not just the gay part, but also the attack on my Americanhood -proud American that Iam- and his saying that I am an embarrassment to my fellow Texans -again, a very proud Texan.

But, here's a question: even in if it's in jest, is it JUST to question a guys manhood, patriotism, and heritage?
Or is it UNJUST and, if so, is the offending party deserving of JUSTICE for his INJUSTICE? Am I not JUST in asking for an apology, rather than letting the INJUSTICE he's committed eat away at our friendship?

Sure he was out of line. As a Canadian I am not sure whether I should be insulted as well or not - on average we probably tend to be more tolerant of homosexuality in Canada than the average Het guy in Texas, so I am in agreement with him there. (I do think that is just because we Canadians have figured out that the more gay guys there are in the world, the more single women there are for us Het guys to chase... *Grin*)

But the implication that being tolerant or having a sense of humor means we are all gay or bisexual seems to me like he's outright asking for a fight. And I'm pretty sure he'd find one here in Canada just as easily as in Texas. If he is just an internet friend or acquaintance it's possible he is just a 'troll' trying to start a fight out of boredom. Either way - it sucks to be him, and apparently no loss for you - because if he is saying crap like this about you he wasn't really a friend anyway.

Sorry, I'm not a guy but here's my answer regardless:

Things can be misinterpreted via email--it has happened to me before where I said something (I was just joking) and because that person couldn't figure it out they got irate with me. Our friends should know us better but unfortunately sometimes it doesn't work that way. **Maybe** your friend was just joking? I admit you don't joke around about things like that (calling a straight guy queer) but who knows what he was thinking. Why don't you ask him instead of getting way too defensive?

Yes personally, I think you went a little over the top on this one.

If you thought it would be funny to emasculate your friends favorite football team, why are being so sensitive about being emasculated yourself? If you can't take it, don't dish it out...

You reacted like a woman.

Men can bash their friends and still be friends. If you're not gay, and you know he's joking, what's the big deal?

I call my friends various degrading names and practical jokes are part of male bonding.

I think he was just getting you back for making fun of his team. It should be understood that the game is to put each other down, so yes, I think you did overreact.

I'm not a guy, but as a Canadian, I find that highly offensive.
