Absolutely not...
Religions--or maybe better classified, "FAITHS"--at least give outlets for a lot of the questions that people will always have, regardless of scientific discovery. There will always be those who look for truth outside of what science can prove, and religions answer these questions: whether the answer is right or wrong is irrelevant, so long as it gives them something they can put their hope in.
Now if only we could all start teaching our religions to behave a little more responsibly...

Overall, yes. Religion has been the excuse for alot of atrocities in history. However, I wonder if deleting religion would help the problem, as humans would still do horrible things only using other things as excuses.
On an individual level, some people would be worse off without religion, but I think anyone who does not grow up with it will be perfectly fine without it.
Plus, there's a liberating feeling that comes with shirking ones self of dogma, and a peace that comes from the idea that life is finite. Ironically, life becomes more valuable when there's not an afterlife.

I love John D's answer - "you need religion in order to have morality". This is the kind of arrogance that suggests the world would get along quite nicely without religion.
Northern Ireland... the Middle East... the Balkans... and that's only in modern times. In the past we've had the crusades, the inquisition, the Jacobean uprising, the conquestadors in Central and South America - the list goes on. Religion has been the primary cause of war for centuries; conquest of territory comes a distant second.
Imagine a world without religion - this would be a world that would not encourage racism, elitism, genocide. Sounds good to me.

NO! Because then anything and everything will be accepted as OK. There would be no worrying about what is right or wrong in Gods eyes, IE. Same sex relationships, abortion, Sex at an early age without the thought of marriage, and even murder. Although I think It's headed that way anyway. There would be no need for counseling centers or alcoholics anonymous or narcotics anonymous because a lot of there ideas are based on the fact that there is a higher power to believe in. Pretty soon It's not going to be socially acceptable to practice the religion of your choice, and that's pretty sad. GOD BLESS!!!

Ending ORGANIZED religions would be beneficial...because everyone thinks HIS religion is the only right one, then arguments occur, and wars are fought over religion, people die fighting for rights for religious reasons, and bottom line is NO ONE truly knows what is RIGHT. So to do away with all organized religions and allow people the freedom to worship as they choose with no contempt or fear, wou;d benefit society world wide

Ending religions, yes. However, don't get religion mixed up with believing that there is an intelligent design and that you were made for a purpose.

If you could make them "magically" disappear, yes. Religion does humanity a disservice by distorting our perception of reality. But outlawing religion would be both a grave error and a complete injustice. I may not agree with religious people's views, but I agree that they have a right to them.

No.
You can't do that by any law in any country.
Religion stays in heart and not in books of law.
Religion is inherited and hence not easy to remove. You must be knowing that after a spell of decades, when churches were re-opened in Russia, people throng there to pray.
It is other way round, don't think of removing religions, make best use of them.

Only if it was replaced by spirituality. If every soul walking the earth realised who they were and where they had come from then all hatred and violence, petty rules and squabbling would disappear and the world would be as it was meant to be .
