I have just changed to an Acer laptop but I am now unable to scan,(copies are ok)Can anyone help please?

It was found that you are willing to scan from PSC 1315. As the printer is copying documents, it shows that the printer hardware is working fine.
The operating system you are using is not mentioned.
However, to scan documents in Windows environments, try to scan using the Scanners and Camera Wizard:
(In Windows XP) Start ->Control panel(in classic view) -> Scanners and Cameras wizard.
Before proceeding, make sure that the printer is turned on and it is connected to the computer via usb cable properly.

Be sure that you have loaded the driver for your all-in-one to your computer. Copying is a function that is completely contained in the machine, and doesn't really use the computer; scanning requires the machine to be able to "talk" to the computer and store information there, so the driver must be in place to allow communication between the two.
