So I was at a dog pound and I saw a blind poodle there who I felt so bad for. I also saw so many kittens in a back room (ones very tiny) and mannnnnyyyyyy other cats who would be put down if not adopted. It made me want to cry. I mean, isnt it sad how those poor cats cant get a home? If I could, I would adopt them all, plus some dogs. My Mom wanted to adopt the poodle (maybe) but my Dad said it would be too much work. And that made me feel bad too.

I adopted a persian recently. :)
But some of these cats might have been cats living out by themselves without owners, who might have been found. My friend's cat ranaway when she was pregnant, and the pound got her. Luckily, she got her back, and all the kittens got a home :D

I agree it's saddening... In fact, I believe every living creatures deserve a home...
But actions speak louder than words my dear friend... People can always feel sorry but didn't do anything... I didn't mean you, you did try but your dad don't want the poodle...
All you can do now is see if anyone buys the kittens and dogs...
If not, maybe you can do what I did last year, tell my friends about those animals in the dog pound... I'm sure at least one of them will want to adopt them...
I have respect for people that cared for animals like you...^_^

You have a kind heart, Hello Rachel and I'm glad you have adopted a kitten which I think will have a very good home :-)
Unfortunately, many people do forget that an animal is a responsibility as well as great fun.
I do not believe in giving animals as gifts, and also agree with the wise people here who have recommended having animals neutered, spayed or desexed (that's the term we use in Australia).
About the poodle ~ I can understand your Dad's point of view, but do think if your Mum wants a wonderful companion the poodle could be a good pet. They are VERY smart, and do not shed like other dogs, because they have a kind of wool, not fur. If it was a strictly indoor pet, it would probably be fine.
Of course you cannot go against what your parents have said, but if you know anyone looking for a pet, the blind poodle could be fine.
I wish I could adopt all the animals, too, but like Zucchinisinratatouille I try to support worthwhile animal charities :-)
Best wishes :-)

you cant save all animals. it is sad yes, but im sure the kittens will find homes and the poodle will find a home to a person that has the time to take care of him.
95% of all animals get adopted into new families. the other 5% are usually not fit for adoption i.e. dogs rescued from dog fights etc.

I agree with charley n. I had to do community service at a pound once. And they don't put down adoptable pets. If the animal is sick or injured with no hope, then they put them down. Mother animals are kept to nurse the babies in the pound and then found a home once the babies are old enough. Most of them are wild or neglected animals, so they are kept in the pound for their safety along with human safety. Mother animals can be vicious sometimes - even when they arn't in danger. Its definately important to spay or neuter your pets. My cat is a female. She lives strictly indoors, so shes not fixed. I would like her to have atleast one litter sometime in her life. And I believe she would like to also. She tries to mother other small animals.. even though shes never been a mother.

Pregunton has hit the nail squarely on the head. You cannot appreciate how horrible it is for an animal to be unwanted, unloved and in line to be put to sleep. I've had to do this in the past because it was my job, but I never enjoyed it. All the people who think animals have to give birth to a litter to be fulfilled should be forced to watch puppies and kittens being humanely euthanized. We simply didn't have room for the thousands of strays brought into the shelter every year.
Please neuter and spay companion animals.

I have seen about 4 mother cats with newborns in the pounds this year. It's so sad to know they started out life this way just to have it end a day or so later. And the poor Mom can't protect her babies or herself from death. I cry all the time about the sad circumstances animals have to live in. I have saved 2 kitties from death row this year. I wish I could save all of them. Please spay and neuter so more don't have to die.

Yes, Rachel, it's very sad that people are so heartless, that they let their pets reproduce without control and then throw away the kittens... or throw away the dog they thought they wanted, but found it was too much trouble.
It's far too easy for people to avoid their responsibilities to animals.

It is sad and yet depressing. but best thing everyone can do to prevent unwanted pets or overpopulation is spay & neuter your pets. Its unfair to the animals who lose their lives because someone couldnt get their pets fixed. There are places who do it for low income families. Godbless your sweet heart. keep on loving animals <3
