They are right it is Electro Plated Nickel Silver. But the technique goes back to the Egyptians!!!!!
Most famous of course is the Sheffield epns which is arguably the best.
It might not be silver but it still maybe worth a few quid depending on age and condition.
Have it valued and you might be pleasantly surprised.

What you have is a tea pot made of a base metal - copper and nickel (may have zinc, antimony, tin, lead or cadmium in addition) - which is plated with silver.
You can have it re-plated should you wear away any of the silver, which you may want to do if the teapot has sentimental value or if you just like it.

electro plated nickel silver this means that it is not solid silver but plated (It is made of a base metal which has a coating of silver on it) the tea pot is therefore not as valuable as a solid silver one.

Yes I remember. Emptying down the drain outside the kitchen. Then tea bags came. I didn't like them at first. I still prefer making tea with tea leaves, it tastes better.
