Sadly with your ideals, nothing will convince you otherwise.

Let's just say it's free and it has most of the tools you need. Besides, AVG doesn't protect from Spyware. The program you're saying does. That's why the huge disrepancy in detection.

As long as you practice good computing habits (that is, don't download anything from those pirates & porn sites etc), avg should work just great. i like it because it doesn't interfere with my work & doesn't slow my computer down. & i especially like avgfree edition because it's free!

edit: an avi may probably not give us virus but just visiting questionable sites may give us spyware which avgfree may not detect, which is exactly the point i want to make

It works, but personally I use Avast/Panda or Kaspersky if the machines are used for anything other than basic stuffs.

AVG is the easiest to use with a clean, clear interface, but sadly its not the most useful one as I have seen many PC infected while it sit there, and when it does find any virus, removal is not always an option.

avg picks up next to nothing correct i dont personally use it but it is good for a standard internet and computer user that isnt doing anything to put their computer at risk. my sisters computer is protected by it and she has never had any problems in the 3 years.

I actual have used AVG for years, yet at present switched to AVAST it quite is likewise loose yet looks to paintings more desirable with my computing gadget. I actual have had purely one virus which AVG stuck and wiped clean up. both look to paintings superb.

If it picks up next to nothing then maybe you are not getting any viruses! I have found it to be really good. My machine seems to get attacked more by antispyware more than viruses and I have AVG antispyware and Spybot to get rid of them.

Sometimes you need more than one anti-virus as one does not pick up everything.

Anything that's free is usually good. After all, you don't have to pay for it.
