Jehovah's Witnesses do happen to believe that Michael is Jesus, but the idea is hardly central to their faith.
It is just that a child can recognize what the bible says about the idea...
Is not Jesus Christ the primary "Seed" who defeats Satan? The Millennial Rule begins with Satan's abyssing, performed by Christ Jesus, and no mere subsidiary. Thus, when Revelation 12:7-9 tells us that "Michael" performs this work, Jehovah's Witnesses are convinced that "Michael" is simply another name for Jesus, just as "Immanuel", "Sprout", "David", and "The Word" are additional names of Jesus (see Matt 1:23 ["Immanuel"]; Zech 6:12 ["Sprout", "Branch", or "Shoot"]; Ezek 37:24,25 ["David"]; Rev 19:13 ["The Word of God"]).
(Genesis 3:15) He [the Seed of God's woman] will bruise you [the original serpent Satan] in the head
(Revelation 12:7-9) Michael and his angels battled with the dragon... So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan
(Revelation 20:1-3) And I saw an angel... And he seized the dragon, the original serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. And he hurled him into the abyss
(Revelation 20:6-7) Rule as kings with [Christ] for the thousand years.
Almost comically, the same trinitarians who insist that Jesus cannot have another name are the same persons who pretend that Jesus is also called Jehovah.
While anti-Witnesses pretend that Jehovah's Witnesses rely upon one Scripture for the belief that Jesus is the archangel Michael, that passage (1 Thes 4:14-16) is simply the easiest, most concise demonstration of the fact.
...(1 Thessalonians 4:14-16) Jesus died and rose again, so, too... the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel's voice

JWs aren't the only ones. Some religions in Christendom are binitarian (2 in 1) or binitarian (3 in 1) and believe God has a split personality of 2 or 3 persons. Jesus was renamed by his Father, Jehovah, after his return to heaven also. Rev. 3:14. Hence that would be a quadrinity or 4 in 1. Jehovah God changes his servants names often when they have a new job to do. Sarai was changed to Sarah, Abram to Abraham, Hosea son of Nun to Joshua (Jesus) son of Nun, etc. There are some other religions who know also Jesus was Michael, but I don't have the info or links at the tip of my tongue as I do other things....I'll have to look it up to see which ones and where. Jesus is a morning star, the brightest of them being the 1st born only begotten son. All ANGELS are morning stars (any Bible. Rev. 22:16, Job 38:7) All angels who existed before the founding of the world were sons of God (KJV, Douay) Job 1:6, 2:1, Job 38:7, Genesis 6:1-4 (any Bible). Jehovah's witnesses have never taught Jesus was just a Angel.
But In fact, the bible is clear that Jesus was a man (less then an angel or a God or God-Man) who died for Adam's sin.
Hbr 2:9 "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour"
Jesus fashioned from a spirit creature, lived then died as a man and was exalted past the angels.
Phl 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name
“For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father"?
Mar 1:11 Then a voice came from heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Hbr 5:5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, [but it] was He who said to Him: "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You."

Jesus is the word of God, and as such the spokesman for Jehovah God. Jesus was the firstborn of ALL creation, the only-begotton. This was because he was the only creation by Jehovah alone, everything else was created through him. His name whilst in the Heavens was Michael, meaning "Who is Like God" and is the Chief of Angels, hence the title "Archangel". Everything else pertaining to Michael the Archangel has been said.

This question has been asked many times before. I have pasted the answer to see how much you want to know the answer.
Who Is Michael the Archangel?
THE spirit creature called Michael is not mentioned often in the Bible. However, when he is referred to, he is in action. In the book of Daniel, Michael is battling wicked angels; in the letter of Jude, he is disputing with Satan; and in Revelation, he is waging war with the Devil and his demons. By defending Jehovah’s rulership and fighting God’s enemies, Michael lives up to the meaning of his name—“Who Is Like God?” But who is Michael?
At times, individuals are known by more than one name. For example, the patriarch Jacob is also known as Israel, and the apostle Peter, as Simon. (Genesis 49:1, 2; Matthew 10:2) Likewise, the Bible indicates that Michael is another name for Jesus Christ, before and after his life on earth. Let us consider Scriptural reasons for drawing that conclusion.
Archangel. God’s Word refers to Michael “the archangel.” (Jude 9) This term means “chief angel.” Notice that Michael is called the archangel. This suggests that there is only one such angel. In fact, the term “archangel” occurs in the Bible only in the singular, never in the plural. Moreover, Jesus is linked with the office of archangel. Regarding the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Thessalonians 4:16 states: “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice.” Thus the voice of Jesus is described as being that of an archangel. This scripture therefore suggests that Jesus himself is the archangel Michael.
Army Leader. The Bible states that “Michael and his angels battled with the dragon . . . and its angels.” (Revelation 12:7) Thus, Michael is the Leader of an army of faithful angels. Revelation also describes Jesus as the Leader of an army of faithful angels. (Revelation 19:14-16) And the apostle Paul specifically mentions “the Lord Jesus” and “his powerful angels.” (2 Thessalonians 1:7; Matthew 16:27; 24:31; 1 Peter 3:22) So the Bible speaks of both Michael and “his angels” and Jesus and “his angels.” (Matthew 13:41) Since God’s Word nowhere indicates that there are two armies of faithful angels in heaven—one headed by Michael and one headed by Jesus—it is logical to conclude that Michael is none other than Jesus Christ in his heavenly role.
[More information showing that the name Michael applies to God’s Son is found in Volume 2, pages 393-4, of Insight on the Scriptures, published by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I find your question very ironic. Why? Because you and others think that Jesus is BOTH God AND the Son of of God. Look at yourself in the mirror before you accuse others of being deceived.
If you REALLY want to know why Jehovah's Witnesses believe Jesus and Michael are one in the same, why are you directing your questions to those who are not Jehovah's Witnesses? Do you want them to pat you on the head and tell you they agree with your brilliant insight? If their religion is not the same as yours, don't you think they disagree with you on some of YOUR beliefs? What will you say then? That everybody is unfairly picking on you?

Close scrutiny of their doctrinal position on such subjects as the Deity of Jesus, Salvation, the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, the Atonement, etc., shows beyond a doubt that they do not hold to orthodox Christian positions on these subjects. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe Jesus is Michael the archangel, the highest created being. This contradicts many Scriptures which clearly declare Jesus to be God (John 1:1,14; 8:58; 10:30). Jehovah’s Witnesses believe salvation is obtained by a combination of faith, good works, and obedience. This contradicts countless Scriptures which declare salvation to be received by faith (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). Jehovah’s Witnesses reject the Trinity, believing Jesus to be a created being and the Holy Spirit to essentially be the power of God. Jehovah’s Witnesses hold to a ransom theory of the atonement, in which Jesus' death paid only for what mankind lost when Adam sinned - namely, the right to perfect life on earth. Thus, they believe in a faith + works arrangement, where sin and death are freely atoned for by Christ, but physical perfection is attained through personal effort, coupled with faith in Christ.
How do the Jehovah’s Witnesses justify these unbiblical doctrines? (1) They claim that the church has, over the centuries, corrupted the Bible, and (2) They have re-translated the Bible in what they call the New World Translation. The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society altered the text of the Bible to make it fit their false doctrine – rather than basing their doctrine on what the Bible teaches. The New World Translation has gone through numerous editions, as the Jehovah’s Witnesses discover more and more Scriptures that contradict their doctrines.
Jesus is not Michael the Archangel. The Bible nowhere identifies Jesus as Michael (or any other angel for that matter). Hebrews 1:5-8 draws a clear distinction between Jesus and the angels, “For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be His Father, and He will be my Son"? And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says, "Let all God's angels worship Him." In speaking of the angels He says, "He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire." But about the Son He says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.” Angels worship Jesus. The angels are called sons of God (Genesis 6:2-4; Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7), but Jesus is THE Son of God (Hebrews 1:8; Matthew 4:3-6).
Michael the Archangel is perhaps the highest of all the angels. Michael is the only angel in the Bible who is designated “the Archangel” (Jude verse 9). Michael the Archangel, though, is only an angel. He is not God. The clear distinction in the power and authority of Michael and Jesus can be seen in comparing Matthew 4:10 and Jude verse 9. In Matthew 4:10, Jesus rebukes Satan. In Jude verse 9, Michael the Archangel calls on the Lord to rebuke Satan. Jesus is God incarnate (John 1:1,14). Michael the Archangel is a powerful angel, but still only an angel.

Because unlike the churches of Christendom of whom the Bible says to get out of, we believe what the Bible really teaches, not what the traditions of men dictate as truth. Soon Jesus, also called Michael the Prince (in the book of Daniel), will lead his army of angels against Satan the Devil, his demons and all who refuse to conform to Jehovah's righteous laws.

Yes, they belive and it is very untrue.
Accordint to the Watchtower Society, Jesus Christ is a mere angel - the first being Jehovah-God created in the universe. " The Watchtower magazine says " there is Scriptural evidence for concluding that Michael was the name of Jesus Christ BEFORE he left heaven and AFTER his return." ( The Watchtower, 15 May 1969 p. 307 )
This is a great question, too bad I do not have time to answer it properly now, but I am sure you will get many good answers.
