Genesis chapter 1
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Gradual. Two arguments for this, first, we have the whole Biblical 6 days of work and one day of rest. Second point on this is that the Biblical view is of 6 literal days, instead of periods of time that would seem to be a "normal work-cycle" for the Lord. I also have a bit of head scratching when it comes to having a first day without day and night (or "Let there be clocks!"). Sorry.
Back to the point, I think you have to look at what your text reads and then either you have faith or you don't.
As far as what I believe? 6 days of toil, one day of football.
But in one single moment, everything came out of NO THING. Not a highly compressed ball of Al Bores insipid movies, or whatever. What does that mean? Is that "sudden" enough? I still say gradual.

i believe what the bible says. whether that was 6 days or 6000 years as some have said because of the scripture that says a day is as a 1000 years and 1000 years as a day to the Lord. but either way he did it. darkness was on the face of the deep and the earth was void. so we do not know how old the earth really is because it was there before God said let there be light. this could account for the dinosoars and the earlier fossils that have been found. we will not know until we get to heaven and then it probably won't be important enough to ask about.

As in the bible:
In the beginning, it was dark.
On the 1st day, God created created the light, by saying "Let there be light" and there was light.
On the 2nd day, God created the sky.
On the 3rd day, God created the land and the seas and vegetation.
On the 4th day, He created the sun and the moon and the stars - the universe.
On the 5th day, He created living creatures of the sea and the water, and every winged bird.
On the 6th day, He created living creatures of the land. And He created the human race, male and female.
By the 7th day, God had finished the work that He was doing.
From here, you can see how the universe was created.

I believe God created the earth and the universe. I also belileve the earth is billions of years old. I also believe any sudden change in speicies occurs because God made it so. And each step was perfect. That is why there are so few transitional fossils or perhaps there should not be any. This would mean that the few that are discovered were truly freaks occurences.

Some believe in a literal 6-day Creation week that happened in 4004 BC; others believe that Genesis 1 is more metaphoric. Ultimately, though, they believe tha God played a direct and deliberate role in each phase of the development of earth and of mankind.
Personally, I can read it where a billions year-old universe is still consistent with the 6-day Creation week. But it's the same as about any other part of the Bible--different Christians interpret it slightly different (or grossly different in some instances) and have different underlying beliefs because of it.

The earths' created in 6 days on the 7th God confirmed His creation and everything became permanent. 1 day is equivalent to 1000 years to man so that's a total of 7000 years, i would like to refer you to "earth's ancient history" site for more information,

Well......it's quite a long one.
Here goes,
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth had no form. It was empty, covered with darkness and water. Then the Spirit of God hovered over the water, and God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good.
Then He divided the light from the darkness. God called the light "day", and the darkness he called "night." And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Then God said, "Let there be a great expanse of air to divide the waters below from the waters above."
And God called the expanse "heaven." And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Then God said, "Let the water under the heaven be gathered together in one place, and let the dry land appear," and it happened.
And God called the dry land "earth"; and the gathering together of the waters He called "seas": and God saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let the earth produce grass, and herbs, and fruit trees, all yielding after their own kind," and it happened; And God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Then God said, "Let there be lights in the heavens; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days, and years." God made two great lights; the sun to rule by day and the moon to rule by night. He also made the stars.
And He set them all in the heavens to give light upon the earth; And God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Then God said, "Let the waters abound with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth." So God created great whales and everything that moves in the water, and winged animals--all these producing after their kinds; and God saw that it was good. And He blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful, and multiply." And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Then God said, "Let the earth be filled with living creatures." So He made the animals on the earth, the cattle, and every thing that crawls upon the earth--all producing after their kinds; and God saw that it was good.
Then God said, "Let us make man in Our image, after Our likeness." And the Lord God formed man out of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
So God created man in His own image; and He created them male and female. God named the first man Adam; then later Adam called the woman, Eve.
God created man in his own image; and He created them male and female. God named the first man; Adam; then later Adam called the woman, Eve.
And God said, "A man shall leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked, and were not ashamed."
And God saw everything that He had made, and it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
The heavens and the earth were finished, so on the seventh day God ended his work. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy. The Lord God also planted a garden in Eden. And out of the ground He made every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.
And we believe that God created something everyday so God suddenly created something eveyday.
God Bless.
