No not at all. You are trying to become an officer, not yur parents.

Even if you do have a criminal record yourself you can still become an officer. Depending of course what your record is. The police like to have people on their force that have had life experiences and can bring knowlage to their team.

I think it depends on the crimes your parents committed. If they are part of a criminal gang, or known to associate with criminal gangs, especially to do with drugs then you might have a problem. If they were involved in petty stuff, shop lifting etc. you should be OK. If you are asked during the hiring process if you know criminals etc. it's probably best if you tell them about your parents. Because if they find out that you lied during the hiring process you could be refused.

The best thing to do is to call to your local police station and have a chat with a senior officer, I'm sure they will be happy to advise you. Don't rely on Yahoo Answers to advise you, go and have a chat with a police man.

By the time you are old enough to become a police officer, you will have your own reputation. They will judge you on this, not your parents. The fact you want to become an officer being brough up by people with criminal records speaks very highly of you, in my opinion.

Good luck to you.

Well if your parents really were the ones who assassinated JFK, I think your chances are slim. Seriously though, it depends what your parents did, how bad can they be?
