You're not seeing them as much, because they are busier than just doing routine patrols. If you are having a reoccurring problem, contact the Police station, and tell them the situation. If they feel it is necessary, a unit can be assigned if available. If you need immediate assistance, just call.

I am not sure what area you are in but there could be a number of reasons. Many times midnight shifts work with less officers or they could be handling other nuisance type calls or addressing problems in other zones in your city. If there is an on going problem with the crime related issues that you describe you can simply contact the department and let them know you would like upgraded patrols to the area. In addition you can also call when you actually are observing an offense taking place. Officers do not mind coming out to handle a loud drunk or similar type call so don't feel bad calling it in. Your police department also should have a "Community Patrol" division that has an assigned officer in your area. You can ask to meet up with him to address the problems where you live. I hope this helps and good luck!

Call the police department on the non-emergency line and request to speak with the on-duty sergeant in your area. Most of the time you have to leave your number and dispatch will let them know you called. They usually call back. This is when you want to request more police presence in your area during that time of night. Now, be nice and be very factual about your statement. Cops can't stand people ranting and raving and complaining. They see stuff you can't even imagine and they have low tolerance for "victim" personalities. Just say, "Hey we got a lot of drunk, disorderly folks in the area at night and we sure would like to see you fellas out here more often - could you let the guys know during your next roll call?"
That should do the trick. Most cops want to help, so let em know how they can help.

Typically, crimes occur at higher rates at night than during the day. What you're seeing is probably a direct result of this and cops are heavily answering calls at night. What you can do is call the police when you have the loud drunks on your street and public intoxication and disorderly conduct are common charges police file when residents of neighborhoods are unhappy in those circumstances.

if you want them to patrol more at night then you need to report the incidents around you...let them know...they are probably working with a short shift at night...make the calls though..let them know whats going on..the more they have to come out there the more likely they will make it a permanent beat and come out more often

Yes do not fall in a pond as they are not qualified to rescue you.But they can stop and search you if they feel like it.Perhaps they are scared if the dark.Maybe they do not come out at night due to drunks on the street.Maybe they think criminals only come out during daylight hours.
