The G6 was the top of the range 3 years ago. The A570IS is the entry level Canon today, and has very similar specifications to the G6 - same megapixels, same 4x zoom, however The build quality on the G series is superior, as is the lens. The A 570 feels more plastic as it weighs 7.6oz, compared to 16oz of the G6.

As a beginner the A570 would be easier to use, while the G6 will give you more options to use if you get serious and want to use more manual settings.

Since the Canon "G" Series is now at "G9" the "G6" is outdated. The A570 IS has Image Stabilization so it is the one you should buy.

G series is the most advance type in canon PS camera while A570IS is kind of entry level
