Don't put it in a water bottle, that is the worst thing you can do. Just buy a bottle of vodka and a big container of Wild Oats (the stuff you make oatmeal with). Empty out the oats put the bottle in it and then fill it back up with the oats. This is how people send alcohol over there all the time. Put some other stuff in the box too, like candy and stuff. Then don't write you actual name on the return label. Chances of anyone getting caught are slim to none, seriously. Plus alcohol is all over in Iraq, but if he is military it is harder for them to get it but they can get it. It is easier to have it sent.

He will be the one in huge trouble sweetie, not you. He has been told repeatedly while preparing for this deployment that alcahol is not allowed except in the green zone recreational areas and it is limited mostly to beer. Mailing alcahol can be illegal through the postal system because of the flamability risk. But for him to knowingly bring in something he has been expressly told he can not have is a failure to obey a direct order/command. Do not send it..

that's a HUGE no...not only would you be breaking a federal law by transporting alcohol

For purposes of transportation and shipping, federal regulations assign each hazardous material to one of the following nine hazard classes.

Class 3: Flammable Liquids
Gasoline, some paints or inks, varnishes, alcoholic beverages

Material or packaging bearing, or required to bear, any of the following U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) warning labels is prohibited or potentially prohibited.
Improper mailing of hazardous materials may subject you to civil and/or criminal liability.

if caught your husband could be in some serious trouble there is no drinking of any type of alcohol over in iraq it is illegal to drink alcohol in a war zone and he could and would be charged under the UCMJ Art 112 that states ~

Any person subject to this chapter other than sentinel or look-out, who is found drunk on duty, shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”

Maximum punishment. Bad-conduct discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 9 months.

so you both would get in trouble if caught...so not worth it...esp for a buzz because if something happens to either your husband or one of his soldiers while he's drinking...that's alot of guilt to handle for the rest of both of your lives...

Your husband has integrity issues if he's asking you to do this - and you do if you are considering it! Come on - it's not worth the trouble you can get in when he gets caught (and you gotta know he would ummm let's see why is Jones so happy today? stupid? falling around when no one else is?) and is busted for breaking a blanket order! (Let's review - no alcohol, no pornography, no drugs, no pork products for the troops!)

Hubby has been twice so yes I understand it's hard, stressful, etc but he can cope in other ways without endangering himself, his troops, his unit or you.

you won't, but HE sure will. Are you willing to risk him being made an example of with loss of rank, loss of pay, restriction, etc if they decide to make an example of him?

he is on DEPLOYMENT, he doesn't have the luxury of kicking back with a cold one when the day is over. He should know better than to be asking you to VIOLATE FEDERAL LAW by shipping alcohol USPS.

Girl, I would seriously not chance doing this at all. I mean you can do it but why would you want to take that risk? Not only will he get in a crap load of trouble, you as well will get in trouble as well. Him asking you to do something like this is very irresponsible and immature.
You can send it to him but why would you? And on top of that why would he even want you ( his wife that he is suppose to love and respect ) to take a moronic risk like that. Take my advise okay, let him know that you aren't gonna get in trouble and risk his job just for him to get drunk. He can wait till he gets back.

Good luck

Some units don't even search the packages upon arrival. You won't get in any trouble, only he will if he's stupid. The last time I served in Iraq, I knew Marines who had a steady supply. In Baghdad, you can have a beer in the green zone. Mouthwash bottles are the usual method. Another method is to buy a thick hardcover book, carve out most of the pages in the middle to make a compartment. Then put small bottles in said package. This gives him a fairly secure storage area.

I know this sounds horrible, but if it's a bible tied by a ribbon.......Or perhaps a nice Diary or Journal with a lock...

As for not risking it, Iraq is hard. Booze helps you get through the tough parts, also sharing a drink after losing a comrade helps. Those who do not serve should not advocate non-compliance with his wishes.

No **** Shirlock! Hello! It is illegal to send alcohol or any other flamable/liquid via u.s.p.s. Not to mention it is illegal for them to have it there. I am a military spouse of 16 years and if someone with the mentality of "empty out a water bottle and send me some vodka" is the one fighting by my husbands side he would be better off without him. Pull your head out of your *** and use some common sense! DUH!

You will only get in trouble if you get caught. And then, probably only him. You would only get hassled if it leaked. Vodka is thinner than water so it would leak easier. Make sure the cap is on tight. Tape it so it will not work loose. Set it upside down for a while to make sure of seal. Remember, it is usually easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission:)
