Pull my Finger- you just admitted something that I never thought an atheist would. "We don't have any evidence yet"...

Yes, I understand athiests are those who don't believe in a god, but if that's the case what do they believe? This is a real tough question... Christians can be defined by many things too, not just that they believe in God. Come back after you really thought about it.

2007-10-11 19:05:56 · update #2

You think you're clever? The earth has always been here no begginning/God has always been here, no beginning???

Gosh dang guys, you actually think you can figure out God? God was always here, you should be grateful, He created you, your family, friends, everything that's great and good in your life and you all laugh about His existence? That's real nice.

2007-10-11 19:09:41 · update #3

See, Christianity is not the same. Something coming from nothing doesn't apply. We came from God. Where did God come from? That is a question that no one can answer, many will try... I, on the other hand, am smart enough to know that I can't figure out God. Well, I'm tired, hope you all have a good night!

This is a tired old argument.
Atheists have the intellectual honesty to realise that our brains are too feeble at this stage of our development to understand everything there is to know in this universe or any other whereas religious people invent gods to fill in the gaps in their knowledge.
If you state there must have been a supreme being or beings who looked and thought like man and created everything out of nothing because everything is so complex that it could not be created without these entities then you must also ask what is the origin of these entities who ,by definition , must be infinitely more complex than their creation.
Just to say they always existed leads you into the same place you accuse atheists of occupying.
Human knowledge progresses extremely slowly.
There was a tribe in the Pacific when the early European explorers went there who had a powerful priesthood.
When an eclipse of the sun occurred these people believed that the sun was being swallowed by an evil spirit.
The priests told them that they must sacrifice a child to bring the sun back and, do you know what, it always worked.
They took some convincing to change their ways

false. to be an atheist you have to lack a belief in gods, that is all. atheism does not include any doctrines about the origin of the universe. this may seem strange, but it may help to recall that atheism is not a religion. many atheists defer to science on this sort of question, but science doesn't have an answer either. it is doubtful whether the question is even a relevant one: there is no evidence that "nothing" ever existed for something to have to come from, and it is hard to imagine how such evidence could be found. the only reason that this is even an issue is in comparison with the doctrine of creation, which explains precisely nothing about nature and seems more in the way of an excuse for thinking that gods might exist.

The only answer to your question has to be "False". To be an atheist you only need not believe in a god. As to your other question "Where does everything come from?" Not all atheist have the same idea about that, there are a few billion of us. I for one think we live on a tiny speck in a vast universe, and are trying hard to solve some difficult questions.

When the answers are found it won't matter to believers, they will just reject any facts they don't want to hear, as they do now.

False. I haven't a clue where, or if, matter came from existing matter ad-infinatum or not.

For similar reasons I don't believe in 'god/s' , i.e. I haven't a clue. (apart from religious 'evidence', which equals 'highly unlikely')

Honesty is the best policy.

Your last question isn't difficult, if you want to define someone by their beliefs or non-beliefs then by all means do so, but that is just a label (at base level).

Would you want to be defined by not believing in Santa? Or would you like to be defined by something you have no knowledge of, (if the Universe 'began'), like everyone else?

And no, I don't think I am clever. Dammm, I thought you were asking a polite question for a while then, minus a backlash etc....

Tricked me!

False. Most of us believe that no one knows where everything came from because we just don't have the evidence yet -- but that science may someday be able to explain the origin of the universe. However, atheism means one doesn't believe in God or other metaphysical entities. So an atheist could have all kinds of crazy ideas about where the universe came from, but those ideas won't include non-physical creators.

false, you don't have to believe something came from nothing to be an atheist. it would appear that there is no such thing as nothing if i understand the uncertainty principle correctly. as this is a component of quantum theory and quantum theory is the most successful theory ever devised by humans, in that it has never failed a test and its predictions are accurate. you are right in saying that you can't get something from nothing but then there is no nothing to get anything from. do you get what i mean. the idea of 'nothing' is just human created concept. just read up on it, it does tend to make your brain hurt, but stick with it and things begin to make sense and you no longer need a creator.

As defined by Webster Dictionary, Atheist means do not believe in God or His existence! So, the answer is False. So, Atheist and unbelievers of God can be considered in one category, the only difference between these two types of people is that; Atheist is trying to disprove and discredit God's Mightiness, Holiness and Existence!

This type of people usually thinks; they know better than God and Lord Jesus Christ. For truly, i believe in my heart that, all of us really knows there is a Mighty Creator God!

God showed us evidences and proof and said that all must have known Him; Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written. The just shall live by faith.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of Him (Lord Jesus Christ) from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

That's why because of disbelief or unbelief, God gives them the desire of their hearts, and God change their fleshy heart unto stony heart, Exodus (Pharaoh's heart is hardened, for he has hardened it against the Holy Will of God)!

Therefore, a written warning to us, is the Holy Words of God (Especially the Old Testaments showing how people suffers, because of their disobedient and unbelieving hearts!), that when someone heart's is full of unbelief, sooner or later it will be hardened by their pride, their ego being ashamed to admit their error of disbelieving in the existence of God and Lord Jesus Christ( Atheist, unbelievers)! AMEN.

Not all atheists are secular. Why is this such a widespread misconception? But for the majority, who believe in the big bang theory like me, we're not claiming something came from nothing. When time first began in our universe, all the matter that's ever existed was in an extremely condensed space. It wasn't "nothing," it was everything, which rapidly expanded into the universe you know today.

False
You don't "have to believe" in anything.

If one desires to entertain a Cosmological answer, then many atheists align with the best evidence science currently offers.
The nature of the methodology remains open to falsification and displacement as knowledge progresses.

This is the Best Answer in short form I can offer.

Intriguing question...

In my opinion...being atheist is like another religion. The choice to not believe in anything. So I guess they do believe, something coming from nothing.
