They will if you carry your notebook in your hands through the detector. At this point, they will make you put the book in your carry-on bag where it belongs.

I'd also place my watch, wallet, belt, phone, and car keys in my carry on bag before i reach the checkpoint. It will greatly prevent you forgetting to pick one of those items out of the bin when you are done!

Your carry on set will be placed on a conveyor belt and it will go through an xray machine. It wont go through the metal detectors. You will also be asked to take out everything in your pockets and put them in a bin. If you are wearing a belt, you will have to remove that too.

I doubt it. But your luggage doesn't go through the metal detector. It goes through an x-ray machine while you walk through the metal detector.

The notebook will have to go through the screening machine so you will be fine.
