Sounds so simple to me. Raise the sales tax and do away with filing taxes every year, that way everyone pays taxes. Illegals , people working under the table, drug dealers, pimps, or whoever evades paying taxes. We all have to buy stuff, right. Then everyones paying for social security, roads, medical, and all moochers in general. No one should have any complaints then, right?

The rich will be paying the same. Lets say a rich man goes out and buys a $60,000 Hummer, he pay say 20% sales tax. he just paid $12,000 of tax right. The a poor man buys a loaf of bread and a pack of balona, and pays $2 then he just paid $0.40 in taxes so the poor isn't paying that much more since the can actually keep there whole check now. The rich man is paying more since he has more expensive taste.

i think what you are refering to is the consumption tax or the "fair tax". I dont think that it will stop illegal immigration, but at least it would help take some of the money out of the deal. I understand a huge portion of earnings by illegals go to Mexico. Their would be an embedded sales tax on everything and I believe that there will also be a monthly refund check for food items based on the size of family. We also would be able to benefit from all the billions spent here by tourists that will go into our general fund as well. Illegal immigration will never go away as long as big business is profiting from it and "contributing" to campaign funds to look the other way.

2 problems
1. It would not work. Consumption taxes have been shown to boost the cash economy- not weaken it.
2. A flat consumption tax is inherently regressive. The poor pay a larger proportion of thier income in taxes than do the rich.

Either way not a good solution.

Wrong. Under the current system, the people who pay the highest rates of taxes are the poor. The ONLY tax in existance that is based (at least in part) on the ability to pay is the income tax. I pay none.
As illegals are already illegal, avoiding the type of tax you propose is a foregone conclusion: they would buy on the black market (yes, it does exist in the U.S.).

Wrong - illegals can save their sales receipts and pick up a form at the border and get reimbursement for all taxes paid while in the US.

Immigrants, legal or not - DO pay income taxes, AND social security taxes - so they actually HELP the economy.

Sorry but that is a fact.

90% of them do pay into the government coffers and never see a dime of it back in terms of tax refunds or retirement benefits.

Dirty little secrets the republicans don't want you to know.

No. The only thing that will fix illegal immigration is the fence and some sharp shooters on the border. Illegal is illegal and this has to stop. What candidate will build the fence and kick them out? That candidate will have my vote.

No, securing America's borders, punishing companies that hire illegal immigrants, & getting rid of sanctuary cities will solve the illegal immigration problem.

Great idea! All except that poor people will not be able to afford to buy anything they need...
