I bought an expensive pair of new balance running shoes, but the lazy butt I am, I sometimes try to force my foot in the shoe wwithought loosining the laces which has...............

without suprise, caused the fabric to tear in the back, and the plastic has cracked also. Now when I flex the foot, the plastic is now digging into the heel of my foot.

In addition to not being lazy anymore and loosening the laces and not cramming my foot in, any ideas on fixing the broken plastic / fabric? Is there something I can put in front of it, or is there something I can glue in.

thanks

If you've broken the heel counter of the shoe (the rigid "spine" that supports your heel) there's not much you can do. As stated above, you can use duct tape to cover the fabric, but that spine is a very important part of the structure of the shoe and helps its function. I wouldn't recommend wearing this shoe to run in any more, as you're leaving yourself open to injury as it will allow a lot of movement in your heel and, especially if you're an overpronator, leaves you with less stability in the shoe.

You know this now.. never never never crush that part of the shoe. It's like taking a foot to a friend's spine..

Call it a lesson learned and buy a new pair of shoes. A new pair of shoes is cheaper than foot surgery down the road because of the weird gait you'll have running with a broken or poorly fixed shoe. Don't play around with that, even good runners with good shoes end up with busted up feet.
