damn some people are harsh to your question and in all honesty if she loves him more power to her and tell her to dust off the haters that think it's taboo to be in love with someone who has come across some problems in their life to where they end up in prison... i read this article where this couple got married over the phone but the man was in iraq now i dont know if it is legit but they plan on having another wedding when her man gets back but maybe it's more of just a significance than anything check out this site http://www.halfmyheart.com/supportourtroops/ourtroops118.html and good luck to your friend she's going to need to have a lot of patience for the system...

Hi there, I am a wedding officiate and Minister, and no, phone weddings are not legal anywhere. I have done two prison weddings. I believe that marriage is wonderful, life changing event. Most states have rules and regs on marriage in prison. You need to check it out with his CO or prison chaplain.

1.) Is this is serious question? Who's "Mr.Right" is rotting in a prison cell?
2.) No. A marriage must be witnessed by 2 other parties, performed by someone legally authorized to marry you, AND have the marriage document signed by the couple in front of said witnesses. Since this cannot be done over the the phone, no, a wedding cannot be performed.
Frankly, your friend derserves better. Who would *choose* to have children with a criminal?? There are much better people out there. Can't she find a lawyer or doctor or something? That's just crazy.

ive never heard of being married on the phone...altho i wont say it isnt legal. anything is possible (only in america can a person fill out a peice of paper and become an ordained minister so y not marriage by phone?!) it probly depends on where it is. although i have heard of prisoners able to b married in jail (even if the spouse isnt in prison) they are even allowed conjugal visits. the marriage isnt really legally binding w/out conjugating the marriage anyways.

I can't say I agree with your friend's choice for a number of reasons, but you didn't ask my opinion so I'll just stick to the question :P
You should call the warden and find out the exact rules. I know that some convicts are allowed, ahem, alone time with their significant others, so I see no reason why getting married would have to be done over the phone.
Good luck :)

Every state has different procedures for "jail house weddings". Have your friend call the county where she wants to get married. It may be that she has to go to the prison, but again, every jurisdiction has their own rules.

No. They can't. Both bride and groom need to be present at the court office to sign the marriage license, and both need to be present with two witnesses before a licensed officient for the ceremony to be legally binding.
I am not going to say anything negative about the fact that your friend wants to marry someone in jail...it is not my place to criticize the love of someone I don't know. All I can say is: if their relationship is built to last, it will survive until after he is out of jail. Your friend needs to be patient, if this is really what she wants...wait until he is a free man, then they can start their new lives together.

It's all up to the Warden...You have to call the prison, not ask online, and If the Warden says it's alright, They might be able to get married in Person.

Some prisons allow visitation for weddings. I dont really see a point of marrying someone on the phone.. but whatever floats your boat.
