I am sorry for your loss, losing pets, even small ones is not easy.
When my daughters hamsters died (their names were Merry, Pippin and Sam) it was the same, she was devastated.
We did not replace them, I hate to say this but small animals dont live long. They have a high reproductive rate for that very reason.
Wait a while, then think about a pet that has a longer life span, guinea pigs are a bit bigger but they are stronger and usually live a good bit longer.
We had a couple rabbits, they are neat pets, live years and are freiendly, our Mr B would jump on my lap and if I didnt pay any attention to him he would grab whatever I was reading and throw it onthe floor.

I sympathize with your situation. Even the little ones find a way into our hearts. I lost a fish that I had had for 4 yrs and was devistated. I felt sorta silly because it was "just a fish" but it didn't hurt less. Im sure your mouse was very special with its own personality that no other mouse will have.
In regards to your question of should you get another one... that is only a question that you can answer, I believe. Maybe going to pet stores to just look will help you find your answer.
Im sure that you were a great caregiver to your mouse but please keep in mind that mice generally live about 2 yrs. And like humans some live shorter or longer than others. It may have been a old age related illness such as cancer, heart disease or pneumonia which is common in older mice.
Another pet to consider for future is the Guinea pig. They live alittle longer and have great personalities as well. Just keep in mind to research your pet fully prior to adoption as Im sure you will.
Remember its ok to grieve and take ur time before getting another one. The new pet will be lucky to have such a concerned and considerate caregiver.
My heart goes out to you!

Please don't feel guilty, it doesn't sound as if you've done anything wrong. Since your mouse had been with you nearly a year & there's no telling how old he was when you adopted him, he could have just been old. The bad part about small animals is their lives are very brief compared to ours.
We've had our own losses this year & it never gets easier but we continue loving, & we keep adopting when it feels right. We can never replace our little ones, but we can cherish their memories & open our hearts to new lives that need us.
Someone here has said that you can adopt another mouse as a tribute to the one you've lost. I totally agree but you also might consider another small animal or two. If you do adopt a mouse it may be better if he or she doesn't look too much like the one that has passed.

im sorry. my cat died when i was ten. she died of cancer. we got another cat after that. it really helps when you get another animal. you don;t have to get a different one, you can get another mouse. htere must have been a reason you chose to get a mouse in the first place, so you should get another one. since you are so sad, you must have really loved him. and i think that another mouse or hamster would help. of course it can't replace your old one, but maybe it can patch the hole in your heart. i have a hamster, he helped me get over my kitty i had to give away, and he is a really good listener.
i am sure your mouse wouldn't want you to be sad forever, he would want you to be happy. he knows that there is always a special place in your heart for him, and no other pet will take it. you need to get another pet, of course you will be sad, but trust me, there is nothing like the love of an animal.
best of wishes,

I say buy another one, I had animals all my life! cats, dogs, hamsters. birds. you name it! So just buy another one hun, and it will actually help by naming your new mouse the same as the one that passed aaway. Thats what I did with my cat Tory, she was pregnant and had kittens and we could only keep one, and so we did but Tory later on died by choking, I was so heartbroken (of course I cried a lot) and I named the kitten Tory :) and they look exactly the same except the mommy Tory had a orange diamond shape on her head, other wise they look alike, so that really helped me alot to be honest! I'm sorry for your loss =(, I hope you find your own special way of coping with it :)

i would get a new pet, not a mouse, but a cat, or a dog, or even a bunny! something that lasts a long time. i am sure your little angel would want you to have a new joy in your life but another mouse would be to sad.
Good luck!
