Rufus , there is a BIG difference between an intelligent being and a scientific force .
A Scientific force does not define morality . But a "god" or intelligent creator apparently does according to all the varied world religions . ( Of course these "gods" all SENT DOWN their definitions to "special" people ( Mohammed , Abraham , Moses . Jesus , John Smith , L Ron Hubbard , Sun Yung Moon , ....who then had to relay them to the rest of the world .
Atheists are not ignoring or refusing to find the scientific force(s) . We just haven't discovered the ones that happened over 900 Billion Years ago yet . And we refuse to accept the unproven , illogical explanations that some people feel compelled to offer and follow .

1) The Universe appears to exist
2) Something, whether a sentient intelligence or a being or a scientific force, etc. must be responsible for its existence.
3) That something is what the religious call "God", and the non-religious avoid thinking about or naming at all.
4) All of our scientific, philosophic, psychological and religious yammerings are the byproduct of us trying to zero in on whatever "God" is, and thus are not "true" but rather personifications, projections, metaphors, etc. that help us in our quest for understanding.

If there is a God -- how did he get there? If God had to exist to create us, then by your argument something must have existed to create God.
Sure -- your response is that God always had to exist. I say "Why?" Perhaps "Energy" always existed. Is it possible that you are just anthropomorphizing something inanimate?

I have no idea.
If there is a God, where the eff did he come from?
I rather not ponder on such things & just look to the future instead.

God always is, was and will be. He's eternal. He created the concept of time and where He is there is no " time."
