ok look i work at walmart in the camera dept. you want a camera that has a high megapixel. the higher the better your pix will be. 4 is average 5 is a lil better, 6 is good and from then on is great. 10 is awesome. i have a 7. you also want a good optical zoom. digital zoom is no good. i, myself love kodak. they are affordable and very user friendly. also all kodaks take an sd card which are the most affordable card. sony is awesome and a very popular brand, but expensive. they only take a memory stick which can be very pricey. samsung is a cool brand but i wouldnt recommend it. you also want to look for a camera that takes its own battery. the lcd on the camera takes all the juice from batteries so rechargables are recommended. but what if you dont have time for charging and you have take the charger with you? or the batteries die and you dont have any more? i have an hp but i dont like the setup. you should checkout walmart.com they have affordable cameras. they are cheaper than most electronic stores. walmart also has site to store. you order what you want online and pick it up in the store of your choice with no shipping fee. its convenient and cool. and whatever store you go to dont be fooled. i hope i have been good help.

They all take nice pictures for sure! I would stay away from the type that do to many things... Buy one that only takes pictures if you think you need a video camera then buy one. Common media (flash memory) is very important buy to new of a camera and you will pay 100-150 for special memory sticks (wait 4-5 months and same media would drop to 30 dollars) Make sure it takes regular batteries with the highest mega pixels you can afford. If you get caught up into the hype of buying a Sony camera then shop an oulet mall after the department store, you will find the same camera for 500 at (best buy) and 175 at the outlet.

A camera that not only takes good pictures, but makes movies also. Be sure that your movie files will be compatable with whatever movie making program you have. Check the file extension that your camera will make. Will it be avi, mpg, m1v, mp2, mp2v or mpeg? and will it be compatable with what you have on your computer? If not, you will not be able to edit, add sound and splice movie files. If it functioned as a webcam too, that's a bonus, now you got three functions, a camera, a video recorder and a webcam.

Older Olympus with 10x OPTICAL zoom.

Great cameras with auto AND manual settings to learn more if you get interesteed.

2.1 mega-pixels is good enough for 5x7 at a place with newer developing machines.

Newer ones get more resolution but more money.

If you have the money, get a camera that "looks" like the old 35mm cameras so you can change lens. The main part is called a "digital camera back".

Nowadays, most are pretty dece, it's really up to what style you prefer, and how much you want to spend. I've had a cannon, my parents have a kodac, and i now have a sony, and of all, i prefer the sony, but some parts you need to be gentle with as they might wear down easier than some others, which might have harder-to-run software both for the computer and on the camera itself.
