Considering that it doesn't biodegrade IMMEDIATELY - YES, it IS littering!
Worse - what if you chuck it out the window, and then it splatters on the windshield of the car behind you??? Do you really want a possible TRAFFIC FATALITY on your hands JUST because you couldn't wait until you found a PROPER trash can... ;);););)

I would say no, because it will just biodegrade, and probably actually help either fertilize the soil, or feed a wild animal. The problem is, you might find a dicky cop who will write you a ticket just because. Every part of the world has cops like that.
If no ones around I'd toss it outside, you'll actually be feeding an animal or the soil, whereas in a garbage dump it could get contaminated by chemicals and actually end up killing an animal that eats it.

Yes, it's considered littering on the highway. However, if you stopped off, and tossed it into the bushes of a rest area, or landscaping of a local restaurant, I don't think it would be.
I've eaten my share of apples, and trust me, the first squirrel to come across that core will haul it off for you! Nature to nature, you know?

Are you serious? When you throw any debris out of your car, or do not place it in a proper receptacle, for that matter, you can be fined, and cause a car collision....[apple core flying through air, hits someone's windshield, or gets caught in the undercarriage, etc.].

You've got a point there to a certain extent. But while it's degrading, it's a sore sight unless it's buried underground. If everybody does it, can you imagine how the side of the road will look like? .......rubbish dump.

It is littering and dangerous. It will cause animals and birds to be in the roadway trying to get food. This can and will cause traffic accidents that were preventable.

Throwing anything out into the highway is littering and will be summoned by the Highway patrol officers if you are caught.

If it hits the grass on the roadside I figure it's lunch for birds and squirrels, so no, I don't consider that polluting.

technically, it is considered littering, and you could be caught, but as for environmental impact, it will biodegrade.
