okay im in seventh grade and ive been in cross country for about 8 weeks and everything has been good. i do have asthma, but I always take my inhaler before i run, but now that it's almost 10 o clock my chest is killing me and it feels as if im going to combust!!someone from y! answers said that if i were obese then that would be a problemo, and im 118 lbs and 5'5....i dont think thats obese...please help me with anything i could do to help it or if you know what it could be.ty

Hey, I can relate to your problem. I have asthma too, and used to have those pains off and on. When I was 13 I joined the swim team and that helped tremendously (swimming is the best activity for asthma). I think its just a matter of endurance, however I am not sure. I don't think that an inhaler does much to prevent chest pains, its mostly to clear congestion and help you breathe. I have a medicine called Advair that controls asthma long term. Also, Singulair is a pill that I take daily which also controls the symptoms.

All of these medications were prescribed to me by my asthma doctor, so you should go see one for yourself- they will know exactly what to do.

You are not obese. And if your chest is hurting you that badly, you need to tell your parents NOW. You need to be checked out by a doctor or emergency room immediately.

Tell your parents first then try breathing into a paper bag slowly. Even if it is not asthma, you may be having an anxiety attack from too much worrying.
