Well........Catholics do tend to freak out when they think they see an image of Jesus or Mary in any thing even a potato chip! I saw this lady on the Tonight Show a couple of years ago with a potato chip with what she thought was the image of Christ. I don't need an image of Jesus to pray, and I would never pray to Mary. Only to God in Jesus' name.

One important thing you are missing out on or not thinking about. Who determines what Jesus looks like? No one really knows what Christ looked like. We know what the Jesus in paintings looks like but those paintings were painted based upon some human person that modeled for the painting and not Christ Himself. Truth is no one knows what Christ looks like so how can anyone say that anything looks like Christ?
Many such as David Korish (pardon the spelling) at the Waco tragedy deceived the members of that church by saying, after he took a trip to Jerusalem, that he was Christ and God's Son. Remember what Christ himself said in Matthew:
Matthew 24:23-24 (NIV)
24:23 (NIV) At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it.
24:24 (NIV) For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible.
Whether it's a picture, tree sap, cloud formation or whatever no one knows what Christ actually looks like. We will know Christ by supernatural means when He comes or we see Him after death and there will be no doubt. Remember also that after His resurrection his own disciples did not recognize him in his glorified body at first.
Don't be led astray by anyone that claims they can identify Christ but rely upon the Holy Spirit within you, if you are a Christian to do God's will.
In direct response though to your question, if it were possible to recognize Christ the scripture you mentioned would not apply because it would not be a graven image. A graven image would be one created by man not one that would naturally appear.

Catholics don't worship graven images.
For instance, if you know someone who isn't alive anymore and you have a picture of them, you might look at their picture for a while and think back on memories or things that the person did.
Its the same thing, not worshipping, but praying or thinking about this person.
