All are born into sin, with a sin nature.
Rom 3:23 for all sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Psa 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.
Psa 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from the belly, speaking lies.
Those who are given eternal life are chosen out by God, through His grace, mercy and love, not because of anything we do or don't do. It is well within God's rights as sovereign of the universe to grant eternal life to all infants, but He is under no obligation to do so.

It would seem that you are correct, but the bible doesn't elaborate on it. If what you are saying is true, then every person does not need to hear the gospel. However, if every person does not need to hear the gospel, then the verse that says "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God" and "how can they hear unless there is a preacher" isn't true. So the dilemma is that either what this verse says is true, which means that babies can't have faith and will not go to heaven (because they cannot hear and understand) or God has made an exclusion to his rule. Now, if God has made an exclusion, then the verse that says faith in Jesus is the only way is false. Make sense? Now, we as christians can't have it both ways. Either you must believe and have faith, or you don't necessarily have to believe. What about retarded people? What about those that die in the jungles of south america without ever hearing about him? Is there an exclusion for them too? If so, don't you think God would have said something about it? My answer is no. Why? Because he died for the whole world and was successful. Most of christianity believes that Jesus didn't really do what he came to do and needs to come back to finish the job. The salvation that the nt speaks of is salvation of the soul (mind, will, and emotions). The proper way to think about this is: He redeemed me so now I can believe, not I believe so he can redeem me. See the difference? So, my final answer is that Jesus died for babies, for the retarded, for those that will never hear, for those that hear and believe, for those that hear and don't believe, and everyone elso.

That is some what true. However Jesus had to die and be resurrected even for them. Although they go back to heaven they also missed the opportunity to grow and learn. Those things will have to be learned somehow before eternal progression can take place.

I didn't know that "lack of sin" was a cause of death in babies. The concept of "original sin" is applied to people in general, regardless of their age. Thus, it is a practice of some groups to baptize babies.

In the Catholic religion you are born with the original sin. So you can get baptized before buried.

That point is not clearly addressed in the Bible, but one might assume it to be correct..
