Alcoholism does run in families. It does not mean that you are going to become a problem drinker after one drink but it does mean that you are predisposed to becoming one and need to watch for the signs of problem drinking. The problem with alcoholism is that it tends to creep up on you so if you decide to drink, you need to be honest about your limit and why. Having a beer at a party is normal. Having one at 8:00 in the morning isn't

Yes, you are definitely more prone to it. Your brain and body will process alcohol differently from someone who doesn't have it in their family. It's complicated. One drink a night at 15 sounds like a good start to alcoholism. No one plans to become an alcoholic, but it happens. If you don't need the drink, then why have it?

One drink wont cause you to automatically be an alcoholic. Its perfectly fine to have a drink every now and then, as long as you are of age. Wait a while. If you do crave it, drink something like a shirley temple or iced coffee.

Yes, you are more prone to it...One night of drinking won't turn you into an alcoholic, but that one night will lead to another, than another, than it will turn into drinking on the weekends, etc...you're best off not drinking - if your friends try to pressure you, say you don't want to for personal reasons

You will be more likely to have the addictive personality that your Mother and Uncle have, I don't think that the drug matters. Best to start tempering yourself now and stay away from the stuff until you are at least older than 21, because the younger you start drinking, (Or drugs or whatever) the more likely you are to develop dependency.

You may be more inclined to drink more if you spend a lot of time around others who drink, but it is not something that you are helpless to prevent. If you have one drink a day it won't make you drink, but you are in control. It is good that you realize you may be inclined to drink but since you are aware you can make sure you don't.

Don't even risk it. I know far too many 3rd generation alcoholics who can't control the urge. I looked around at all my alcoholic family members and decided that this was one trend I wasn't going to follow.
I'm the one with the four college degrees and the happy life. Go figure.

Yes, it can take 4 generations of non-drinking parents to have offspring that are less likely to inherit it. Addiction in general is also hereditary.
