Why are there no arguments about Thanksgiving?

Could it be because, no matter what other differences of opinion we may have, we all like to eat?

Even though I still participate in the holiday, I feel the whole foundation of it is a big farce. Should we argue about it?

Load of bollocks, mate (English expression yet i'm particular you are able to paintings it out). Christmas, Halloween and Easter are all Christian gala's and continuously were. Easter has some links to the Jewish Passover because it changed into initially celebrated at the same time or, because it truly is now, on the Sunday after (the bible says that Christ rose back at Passover time). each and every thing that takes position in Christian facilities is depending on the Biblical account, though i do not think you have ever been to be certain. Christmas changed into celebrated contained in the early church on quite some dates yet they finally settled on December twenty fifth round 300AD which changed into 9 months after March twenty fifth, a date reported for Christ's idea one hundred years earlier being reckoned to be the date of the advent of the international. the purely nicely-known pagan pageant on Dec twenty fifth changed into not created until eventually about 300AD, by using a roman emperor, likely as portion of an attempt to counter Christianity. Hallowe'en, All Saints Eve, is a lot later being instituted contained in the eighth century by using the Pope in Rome. there is not any data of any pagan banquet being taken over. The Irish "Samhain" is inappropriate because by using this time the Irish had already been Christian for 2 hundred years or more desirable. The Irish church already had an All Saints social gathering contained in the spring and moved it to November 1st later to verify the Pope's date. Your idea that those form of gala's are orginally pagan isn't an historic reality yet a remodeling of Anti-Catholic propaganda positioned about by using Puritans contained in the seventeenth century. Ironic. you've been conned by using a gaggle of Christian extremists. LOL the single faith on which Chrsitanity could quite be stated to be depending is Judaism. ought to procure something adverse to Jews?

The original Thanksgiving was celebrated as a feast of Israel,
It was the time of the harvest and all gave thanks to God for the provisions He had given. This was continued in European churches as Harvest home, and is held around the time of the Harvest. In the USA it dates back to the Pilgrim fathers who were thankful for surviving and gave thanks to God. I'm sure our American friends can better describe the tradition of the origin of Thanksgiving in America as it is a little cloudy to me.
(the exact history). The reason it is not objected to is that is does not have pagan roots, but biblical ones.
Christmas, Easter, Haloween, All saints day and others are pagan holidays with christian wrapping paper.
Although they may be born in paganism it is permissible to keep them as a christian if we do so in faith and honoring God. The Bible says we are not to judge each other in keeping sabbaths or holy days (holidays) as long as each man does so in faith, that is with a pure heart.

Thanksgiving has no religious beginnings. That's why its usually not argued about.

Of course, if you get into the truth about what they were truly celebrating when it started, an argument can ensue.

I've wondered about the same thing. It's odd that no one seems to have a problem with Thanksgiving. Not that I mind. I love the food!

it is not religious or spiritual in nature. it is however, nationalistic and since we are primarily form the same nation we tend to give it a pass. All "Secular" holidays get a free pass from just about every group save one...Jehovah's Witnesses

I think you're right. MMMM Turkey, green bean casserole, mince pie. I usually just eat to live, but hey, who doesn't look forward to holiday meals.
