that is, without going through all the trouble of getting into pc hd and shrinking it etc.???? do these new dvd recorders have adjustments to lower quality and record slower or something? what is the deal. i have a library to transfer. help?

There is no such a thing as a "80 min DVD". A DVD has about 5 GB of space. Depending on how you compress your video you can put easily up to 4 hours of video or even more (but will look pretty bad).

All DVD recorders have "quality" recording settings (like the VCRs). Use the "middle quality " and you should be OK (something like Long Play).

Standard DVD's are 120 minutes. Your movie will fit. However, if you're talking about putting on an audio CD which are rated for 80 min, you can create a Video CD, but it probably won't fit. Assuming you DVD recorder can record to CD's.

your problem has nothing to do with shrinking or file size or quality. You can't make 100mins =80mins. You're going to have to lose 20 mins somewhere. why not just make 2 discs.

I would cut it right down the middle with a saws all and stack it up.
