I really want to purchase a PS3, but i recently heard that they were doing away with the 60GB version. That makes me wonder when/if they are going to drop the price again on the 80GB version. I don't want to buy the 80GB if they are going to drop the price anytime soon. Any ideas?

I think you should buy the 60GB PS3 while they are still avaliable. The 60GB PS3 is more compatible with more PS2 and PS1 games than the 80GB is. Plus, you can easily buy a bigger harddrive for your PS3 anytime you want.

But if backward compatibility isn't really an issue for you, I guess you can wait to see if the price drops on the 80GB when the 60GB PS3's sell out. Look at it this way, the sooner you buy the 60GB PS3 the longer you'll be enjoying it.

Buy the 60GB version, it has all the functions. The other versions don't include all the functions as the 60GB system. And if you're really worried about the hard drive space, just slap on an external hard drive, those are cheap. I doubt Sony will lower the price any more. Going into a price war is the last thing that any companies will do.

Rumors say yes. Cheaper 40GB is coming, that's for sure. It doesn't have backwards compatibility with PS2 games (only PS1 can be played). It has 2 USBs instead of four and doesn't have memory card slots. Apart from that - it's all the same great console. The price isn' tnnounced clearly - something in between 400 dollars - 400 euros - depends on region.

According to Game Informer, the rumor is that the 80 gb will drop down to 500 bucks once the 60 gb are all gone. Of course, Motor Storm will probably not be included.

Actually, it is possible because the 8GB iphone went down $200 and the 30GB PS3 went down $50 so it might just be a chance.
