Schools across the country hang Christmas, Kwanza and Hanukkah decorations each year. We have Halloween parties, Easter Bunnies and Santa Clause. Every student is expected to join in carols, and holiday plays.

This Ramadan season, a Muslim PTA member, whose job it is to hang the decorations each year, hung Ramadan lights at her children's elementary shool (that has 30% muslim students), creating outrage as parents dressed in red white and blue protested the display.

If such a discriminating act were done against Jews, it would be anti - semitic. If against Blacks, the Rainbow Coalition would be there. Why is it not seen as bigoted to discriminate against American Muslims?

I think all Holidays should be represented, or leave them ALL at HOME.

What do you think??

I agree Reba. It's good for children to learn about Holidays that they don't observe. They will have to get along with a variety of different people when they get older. I see no harm in celebrating with others. It can actually be fun. More fun than dressing in the colors of our flag and being angry Americans who show fear and ignornce.

I agree. Although I think they should not be celebrating any holidays in school. After all Jehovah Witnesses do not celebrate holidays, and I am sure there are other religious/ non religous people that don't as well.

In my sons school they have a fall harvest type party around Halloween. In the Spring they have a Spring party near Easter. The only holiday they really celebrate seems to be Valentines Day when they exchange Valentine cards and each child is required to send cards enough for the whole class. I personally don't have a problem with people displaying decorations or support for their own cultures holidays, I enjoy decorating for mine!

I'm a Christian and my son goes to a private Christian after school program so I do not feel he needs to celebrate all the holidays at school. It would be nice if they could all learn about each cultures holidays from a hostorical or anthropological prespective as a way to promote understanding and tolerance.

Just MHO.

Every School district should decide which Holidays they will observe and seek fairness in their decision making.

I don't like it when School districts hold graduation ceremony on Saturday's. Saturday is the Sabbath and therefore all should be at church. There are other days to have the graduation program.

If there is a student who wants to put up decorations for their particular holiday, they should be able to do that. It's good for students to be exposed to other holidays and beliefs anyways.

But as for giving kids the day off school for EVERY holiday, well, every day is SOMEONE'S holiday, and the kids would never go to school! (Not that they'd complain) ;)

i think of trip trips might desire to be celebrated. For religious ones, the toddlers might desire to be allowed to have fun even though they want. maximum religious trip trips have equivalents at around a similar time of year. besides, maximum Christian trip trips are so commercialized they have replace into approximately as religious as Halloween. It does not particularly count variety. there is not any longer something with regards to the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus that announces you may desire to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All those issues is merely infantile adults ruining toddler's exciting.
