In my jurisdiction if you fight a ticket (as opposed to sending in the fine) then there are additional court costs. Usually $40-$50 if you are found guilty.
Call the court, and find out for your case. Sounds like different places use different systems.

If you request a jury trial, there is a fee. Otherwise, the court costs are already considered into the bond of the ticket.

In my state you pay 'court costs' even if you pay the ticket without going to court. The court clerk has to process you paperwork either way.

in my county they tried to trick me by saying i could go to their $75.00 driving school for expired tags and no seatbelt. or i could mail in $300.00 and not go to court or to school. i went to court with proper tags.judge said dismissed and buckle up.all it cost me was the gas
