"Blackbird" was my first song. It is a good introduction to finger picking and helps you get a feel for moving up and down the neck.
Also you might try "Mr. Tamborine Man", "Proud Mary", "I'm a Believer", "Marguaritaville", "Brown Eyed Girl", "Closing TIme", "Jack and Dianne" All good picking songs with just a few chords but very nice strumming patterns, and really takes advantage of the great sounds you can get out of an acoustic guitar. If you need help with fingering or notes or need any other guitar advice, just e-mail me. Gryfindorgirl90@aol.com

Its totally dependant on your musical preferences. I would highly recommend some of the Beatles slower tunes to start, "And I Love Her", "If I Fell", and the all-time classic "Yesterday". They will challenge you and might get you playing chords and progressions you can integrate into regular electric playing.
Also, even if you are not a fan of Christian music, I also recommend hearing some work by Third Day's guitarist Mark Lee. Awesome compositions in "When the Rain Comes", "Everlasting" "Love Song", and "My Hope Is You"
Good luck - -

Hal Leonard has a book out called, "The Very Best Of Finger style Guitar", it has musical notation, tab, and chords, you can get this book at Sam Ash, or on Hal Leonard's' web site....it has songs like Tears in Heaven, Yesterday,Canon in D. He has a couple of other books out....check them out and see if they have songs that you like. Also go google and type in this...Books for acoustic finger style guitar, and you'll have thousands of sites to check out....I play and teach classical guitar and just recently got into acoustic....and I love playing finger style guitar.....it's sounds so much better then just strumming or playing single notes. The song Yesterday if you want to hear it played exactly how it is in this book go to youtube and type in this, Peo Kindgren, Yesterday, he's a classical guitarist....who to me is one of the best guitarist on youtube, he plays everything from the Beatles to Bach....good luck... I know you'll love the way that Peo plays !!!!!!!
