Am I supposed to do it before the eid prayer?
What if I forgot?
Does zakat al fitr take a specific form? like is it supposed to be food for the poor or can it be any kind of charity?

I do not think they collect zakat at the mosque.
I usually go to the red crescent to pay it but I forgot this year.

I was at the mosque for eid prayer and the imam spoke about zakat. He said we have till maghrib but I heard before that you should do it before eid prayer. So which is correct? I am confused.

Fitr you must pay off before the Eid Prayer. It could be food or cash in exchange determined by some Islamic organization in your area in accordance with Islamic guidelines. As for Zakat you may pay it even much after the Eid prayer. Just ensure that these go to real poor people.

Supposed to be done before the Sallatil-Eid, it could be some food or any medium of exchange which could help those poor ones to enjoy the day.

Allahu-allam.

You can pay it just before you make the Eid prayer. Just have it ready before you go into the mosque.

No it is not as it is not fardh (farz/wajib/manditory) it is sunnat/mustahab. So if you do it you will get lots of sawab but if you dont, its not a sin or harm
