As spirituallity and morality become less important and people start doing what seems right in their own eyes, more and more of these kind of acts will probably happen

You do not want to get into a debate on who kills more people per year- Christians or atheists. Trust me on this one.

I am a Christian and I can say that the big surprise is that you assume that just because the "kid" did a crime and dresses a certain way it makes him an Atheist. That is what I am surprised about...because I got to tell you before I was a Christian I believed in God and Jesus and I dressed like a slut...but I was not an Atheist., I was not a Christian because Jesus was not my Lord but I believed. For all you know this Goth trench coat wearer is a person who believes in God but has not yet come to have a relationship with him. Please for the name of Christ stop judging and hating people for their unbelief or the way they look, that is no way to win souls my friend. Peace.

I'm sorry but how do you know that this kid was an atheist. And a color is just a color black finger nail polish is just finger nail polish. You're stereotyping people who wear black. I know people that I went to high school with that wore black or dark colors all the time and some of those people were more well balanced then the kids walking around with the bright colors. And most schools don't allow trench coats into their schools anymore because of columbine. Kids in America have no guidance but that's their parents fault 98% of the time because their parents see it better to give them cellphones at 12 and get them out of their hair then being home when the kids got home from school, not a date to ask "How was your day?".

Honestly most of my high school years I didn't believe in God and I experimented with other religions including Wicca then I became Agnostic for over a year. Then it clicked one day that He was watching over me and that He'd given me a great gift. But all those years of not believing I didn't shoot up a school nor did I ever want to or to kill anybody, do drugs, drink alcohol or experiment sexually.

I don't feel like it's a church that keeps kids from shooting up schools but their parents. Parents should step up and stop being a best friend. Kids have plenty of friends they need the only parents they'll ever have to be just that Parents.

God Bless and Best Wishes

Kind of lacking in compassion aren't you? Or did you miss you the whole part about how there were other kids there that constantly teased him? But I guess that's "Moral" to bully other kids... it just isn't moral if the Manic Depressed kid goes off on those that treat him like crap.

Amazing how people like you try to make it seem it was just that kid. You must have also missed the interview with the mother who was dressed in nice clothes, nice make-up... NOT a tear in her eyes as she showed the news crew around the kids bedroom and talked about how weird how OWN child was. And how she didn't see the "signs"... No wonder... you have to actually be WITH your kid to know there are signs.

No, people like you don't look at the whole picture to see WHAT caused the kid to snap like that. Instead you only point out that he wore clothes like a Goth and could have been an atheist (it was never said he was an atheist.... all that was ever said was by another kid who claimed he said "I worship Marilyn Manson" which doesn't mean he does worship Manson). Kind of like those parents who won't take responsibility for their own kids, instead blame Rock-n-Roll for their actions.

Take a psychology class - or, better yet, get OUT in the real world and talk TO people... You might learn something.

Obviously you see this as "right" in your own eyes......

Pardon me, but I fail to understand why someone needs to believe that they're being watched by an invisible man in the sky in order to have an understanding of right and wrong and be able to empathize with the needs and suffering of his fellow human beings. Obviously, some kids are poorly socialized and become isolated and emotionally detached from others, and the results can be bad. The problem is a lack of parental care and supervision, not a lack of religion. I do not believe I need to mention how many people in history have been tortured and killed by religious people, in the name of God's laws.

ok, but take a look at the kid who shot up VT...NOT goth...the guy who shot those six people in wisconsin...NOT goth. and yeah, this kid was wearing a marylin manson shirt...marylin manson is NOT not NOT goth. just so your aware, many goth people find spirituality and morality very important...me thinks your just looking for something to blame and goth seems like it. for every one goth kid that actually does commit some terrible crime, there are THOUSANDS who dont. and other people are just as likely to do it too, so get off your soapbox for a minute and look at reality. im goth. i do volunteer work. i hold a steady job. i tell my parents i love them. im a respected member of my community because i do volunteer work and donate to charitys any chance i get. were not bad people. one bad apple doesnt spoil the whole bunch.

also, you clearly missed the part of all the articles that said that this kid was being bullied constantly. what was ever done about that? you completly overlooked the contributing factors and decided to lump this soley on YOUR belief that this kid lacked morals and spirituality. learn to read!

Morality has hardly anything to do with religion. It depends on the person, not the religion they follow. What about those parents that kill their children and say God told them to? Or because they wanted them to go to heaven instead of live here? I can tell you're one of those oh so kind, accepting, tolerant, religious people. You're just an ignorant idiot. Guess what? I'm Atheist. Guess what else? I'm the only person in my classes that picks up litter, stacks the chairs for the teachers without them asking, and I'm one of the few who actually stays after class if I have overdue work instead of skipping. My mom and I have also sponsored a kid in Ethiopia. I don't even swear. Please don't assume that just because we're Atheists that we're bad people. You're doing nothing but making yourself look like a fool. I have nothing against other religions, even if I don't agree with a lot of things they believe. You obviously have some issues. How do you even Know he was an Atheist. Learn things about us before you assume we're all bad people. Some of us are and take Atheism too far, but same with religions. Like that new Atheist rapper, he's just an idiot who has nothing better to do than make people angry. Then again you don't seem to have anything better to do than make people angry either. And seriously, who cares how people dress? I like it when people aren't afraid to stand out, as long as it's not just because they want to get attention from people, but because it makes them happy and it's what they want. You're obviously not too bright........

I feel so bad for kids like that...they must really have horrible emotional turmoil...but I seriously hate bullies. I believe that alot of these incidences have an incredible amount to do with moronic kids who think they can push around people who aren't as popular or goodlooking as they are. Its disgusting. Not to say that these kids doing shootouts aren't to blame. But still, we have the capability of making schools such better places and it starts with the way we treat oneanother. Im sick of teachers saying that kids need to sort it out themselves.

I disagree with you that the disturbed teenager was an atheist. He did state that he had a "God" he worshipped.

Atheists as a whole tend to be more "moral" than those who profess a religion as they realize that they need to behave ethically without recourse to the equivalent of "Eternal Punishment"

The reason for this tragedy has nothing to do with religion and more to do with other factors including possible mental illness and little to no parental control.

To be fair he didn't even kill anyone unlike that 20 year old psycho cop. It's kind of sad actually. Someone just punched him in the face as he was leaving the restroom and that made him lose it.
