i'm not saying i hate america, i'm just saying i don't really like it. I don't know why people get all mad at me just because i don't really like it. to me america is not the best country. i'd rather live in japan where it's much more peaceful, much more advanced, and much better schooling.
why do people get so mad? i mean, doesn't everybody have their own opinion?
and i understand and can read the japanese language.
and i'm 14.

i would NEVER insult americans and would NEVER insult the troops! The troops are fighting for a country they love and I tottaly respect that! If they want to fight for a country they love, they should fight for the country they love.

You have a right to your opinion. If you think there's a better life for you abroad, go for it! At the very least, you will gain life experience.
What I respect about your question is that you don't bash America, and you don't bash Americans in general. Those who do are generally ignorant fools (who also should research the origin of names before they throw them around). You, on the other hand, voiced your opinion without using childish name - calling or discriminatory comments. Do I think this country is perfect? Certainly not; no country is. I have Irish DC, and will return there in a year or so - not because I claim it's better, but because it meets my specific needs more sufficiently. Anyway, you sound like a very intelligent young woman, and I wish you all the best.

Okay, well if you like Japan so much, go move there (or do it when you turn 18). I completely disagree with your opinion but that doesn't matter, it's your opinion.

However, people might get mad because it seems you have not gotten a good grasp of English before you started judging America. Either that or you're just too lazy to use half-way decent grammar and proper capitalization. Hopefully you can write in Japanese better than in English.

Hi Sasha.

My husband and I both served in the military and we were stationed in Japan (Yokosuka) for 4 years. I don't think you quite understand how blessed you are to be an American - I don't think you understand either what it means to be free. The cost of living in Japan is outrageous for one thing. We lived off base in a very small apartment - 1 bedroom and about 300 square feet of living space - we paid $1,200 a month for it! It's outrageous. Also, everything in Japan is pretty much controlled by the Japanese mafia - including the police. They are not free there - they can't do whatever tehy want whenever they want as we can here in America. Here in the United States, for example, we have the freedom of speech, the freedom to bear arms (own guns), there, guns are illegal, freedom of speech is not allowed. Part of the culture over there (I saw this ALOT) is total submission to the husbnad - husbands beat their wives over there and it's perfectly legal for them to do so, because it's considered submission. Also, unless you can FLUENTLY SPEAK, READ AND UNDERSTAND the Japanese language, you will have a very hard, if not impossible time getting a job over there. You just really don't realize how good you have it here in America. Why do you think everyone wants to move here? Do you know how many Japanese girls would try to land a military husband just so that they could become U.S. citizens? I saw it every day. My hope for you is that you will realize as you grow and mature how blessed you are to live in this free country... I guess maybe you have to be in the military though and live all around the world to realize, appreciate and cherish that... but whatever it takes, I hope that you do eventually.

You don't like America because you haven't learned enough about it to appreciate it yet. That's all. Places like Japan only seem cool to you right now because you're too young to know what it took to earn you the right to say what you're saying. There are still many countries that would punish you for those thoughts. BTW Japan ain't all that advanced. Most of their advanced ideas came from right here in the good ole U.S.A. Keep your mind open, never stop learning, and you will see, one day, that Americans have it better than any other country on the planet.... by far.

There is a reason why you don't like the USA. Think about what reason that is. Is that reason changeable? There are a lot of things that we can do to become a better nation, I agree. But I will always love the USA and what we can become here. There are tons of opportunities. But everyone has their own opinions. And yes, we need to respect everyone's opinion. But if you are that unhappy to live here, save up money so you can move to Japan. And just to let you know, there are a lot of people who do love America. And we take it as a sign of disrespect when our country is being talked bad about. So dont be surprised when you get negative comments.

hmmmm...let's think of it this way, hun. It's almost like you're living in someone else's house-you're like the guest, the people of the house are serving you, and you suddenly say, "I really don't like staying here! It's not that I HATE it, it's just that I don't really like it. I'd much rather stay at my friend's house where it is much more peaceful."-so what do you think? Of course they would get angry. I want to maybe move to Canada in the near future. but honestly, think about it. It's like youre a traitor. you're actually living here. might as well suck it up an deal with it for now. keep those comments to yourself. you can say, "I want to move to Japan once I turn 18" or something but you shouldn't say "I really dislike America". Wouldn't you think that people would be offended? How about if an American lives in Japan and says that they "really don't like Japan"? How do you think the Japanese would react? hun, it's a universal thing get "mad" when someone says something like that about your country no matter what or where.

Then go to Japan. I honestly am very proud of my country, but you are entitled to your own opinion. The only way I would be offended is if you insulted the troops or something like that. I think Americans should be proud of their country, we were the first ones to set up a government like this. Hope this was insightful.

Sweetheart japan is calm because the society is completely controlled. They do not have the same freedom we have here in America. I understand where you're coming from, but I do not share the same beliefs.
The only way you can obtain Japanese citizenship is to marry a japanese man or to buy a house or create jobs there.
I think unless you live in Japan you have no way to judge if it is better or worse.
There are many things about America and our government that upset us all, but our freedom truly is taken for granted.
It is also the most phenomenally beautiful country I have seen so far.
Explore, find your niche, maybe it won't be so bad after all!
We are all entitled to our own opinions, yes, but don't you see - That is what makes America so great!
(disbarring the obvious horrors of the patriot and freedom of information acts... I'm no dummy.. But I do love America and have hope for its future and the future of its people!)

Sasha H that your choice and your freedom to express your opinion. I know of your fellow countrymen are going to say nasty comment etc. I been to USA love it as a tourist. But wouldn't want to live there. My dream would be Tuscany, Italy to live. DaniDane comments about wife beating in Japan. So what she saying is it doesn't happened in the USA? Strange concept Americans have about freedom. What so great about the right to bear arms? We seen how children can walk into a schools and shoot someone. This is a great image for the US to have worldwide. I have never heard of this in any other country. School shooting. Mafia she also mention. That strange the mafia control the casino in Las Vegas, the unions, plus the drug in the US. I hardly thing living in a military base qualified you to be an expert on Japanese culture, and politic, compare we say someone going to Japan to teach English and seeing the real Japan.
One more point why do American have this strange concept that they the only nation that has freedom?

Well, if you've grown up in America all your life and went to live in Japan for a month or so, you'll prefer America > Japan. You're just not used to some of our customs I guess.

People get mad at you because you're telling everyone you don't like America...in America. The people who live here probably like it here and are used to American culture. You comparing America, their homeland, to some island off Asia is like an insult to us.
